Effect of Size on the Formation of Solid Solutions in Ag-Cu Nanoparticles

Sergiy I. Bogatyrenko et al.

Summary: Modern technologies drive the research on multicomponent nanosized materials with improved properties, which are determined by the atomic arrangement and interphase interactions. In this study, we investigated the formation of solid solutions in Ag-Cu nanoparticles across a wide size and temperature range using in situ TEM techniques. Our results provide insights into the mixing patterns and composition of phases in AgCu nanoparticles at the atomic level and construct the solid-state part of the Ag-Cu phase diagram for nanoparticles as small as 5 nm. We observed an asymmetric behavior of the solvus lines, with the content of Cu in Ag increasing with decreasing size, and a size-dependent terminal temperature Tterm for the existence of AgCu alloy nanoparticles in a vacuum.

Nanoarchitectonics of Triboelectric Nanogenerator for Conversion of Abundant Mechanical Energy to Green Hydrogen

Kalyan Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) for the production of green hydrogen from renewable mechanical energy. A magnetic covalent organic framework composite is used as the positive triboelectric material, while MXene incorporated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film serves as the negative triboelectric material in a contact-separation mode TENG (CS-TENG). Micropatterns are incorporated on the surface of PDMS/MXene film using 3D printing technology. The CS-TENG harvests energy from simple mechanical actions and the harvested electrical energy is used for water electrolysis, producing hydrogen and oxygen. This research is expected to enable the production of green hydrogen from mechanical energy sources such as raindrops, wind, and vehicle movements.
