Heterogeneous hydroformylation of alkenes by Rh-based catalysts

Boyang Liu et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the developments of catalysts for heterogeneous hydroformylation in the last decade and proposes potential modification methods for future improvements. The hydroformylation properties of different reactants are compared in order to emphasize the unique challenges faced by various olefins. The catalytic properties can be tuned through electronic effects, steric hindrance, and reaction condition optimization.

Synthesis of diols from jojoba oil via rhodium-catalyzed reductive hydroformylation: a smart way to access biobased polyurethanes

Chryslain Becquet et al.

Summary: Jojoba oil ester was functionalized with alcohol groups via hydrohydroxymethylation catalyzed by a Rh/amine system. Under optimized conditions, a full conversion and a 99% yield of alcohol products were achieved. The catalytic system could be recycled at least 10 times without significant loss of activity. The hydrohydroxymethylated products were successfully used as monomers for the synthesis of a new biobased polyurethane with good thermal and mechanical properties.
