Identifying Key Descriptors for the Single-Atom Catalyzed CO Oxidation

Max J. Hulsey et al.

Summary: Understanding the structure-activity correlations for heterogeneous single-atom catalysts (SACs) is crucial for catalytic design. In this study, we found that linear scaling relations were not applicable for SACs and established multiple scaling relations between activity and calculated descriptors. The thermodynamic driving force for oxygen vacancy formation was identified as an important factor in addition to substrate adsorption energies, particularly for CO. This work presents a successful approach for re-establishing scaling relations for SACs and has broad implications for catalytic processes involving this type of catalyst.

Facet-Induced Strong Metal Chloride-Support Interaction over CuCl2/γ-Al2O3 Catalyst to Enhance Ethylene Oxychlorination Performance

Hongfei Ma et al.

Summary: Supported transition metal oxides, chlorides, carbides, and so forth (MXn) play a critical role in redox processes as catalysts. In this study, the nature of the interaction between monolayer CuCl2 and gamma-Al2O3, and its catalytic consequence induced by support facets in ethylene oxychlorination were illustrated. The effects of the interaction between CuCl2 and different exposed facets of gamma-Al2O3 (110) and (100) on catalytic performance were demonstrated through kinetic and theoretical studies, combined with operando spectroscopy. The catalyst with Al2O3 (110) showed better performance in terms of activity, selectivity, and stability.

High-temperature flame spray pyrolysis induced stabilization of Pt single-atom catalysts

Shipeng Ding et al.

Summary: Stable single-atom Pt catalysts supported on metal oxides were successfully prepared using flame spray pyrolysis, demonstrating excellent performance in high-temperature applications such as CO oxidation, methane combustion, and methane partial oxidation reactions. The formation of the tetragonal-monoclinic phase of ZrO2 by flame spray pyrolysis was found to enhance the catalytic activity of the single-atom Pt catalysts.

Unraveling the Intermediate Reaction Complexes and Critical Role of Support-Derived Oxygen Atoms in CO Oxidation on Single-Atom Pt/CeO2

Yubing Lu et al.

Summary: CeO2-supported Pt single-atom catalysts are important for automobile emission control and understanding catalyst mechanisms. In CO oxidation studies, Pt-1 complexes exhibit different states during reaction cycles, with Pt(O)(4) as the dominant form and Pt(CO)(O)(3) as a minority complex. The presence of labile oxygen adatoms from the CeO2 surface plays a crucial role in the regeneration of Pt complexes during the reaction.

In situ FTIR and ex situ XPS/HS-LEIS study of supported Cu/Al2O3 and Cu/ZnO catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation

Jun Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, the surface characteristics of Cu-based catalysts during H-2 reduction and CO2 hydrogenation were investigated using various surface analysis techniques. It was found that Al2O3 can stabilize Cu+ while Cu/ZnO samples gradually had Cu nanoparticles covered by a highly defective ZnOx overlayer during H-2 reduction.
