Chain Walking in the AlCl3 Catalyzed Cationic Polymerization of α-Olefins

Amene Rahbar et al.

Summary: The basic mechanisms of 1-decene polymerization using a safer AlCl3 catalyst were revealed. The use of toluene solvent resulted in the synthesis of low molecular weight, low viscosity, and highly branched polyalphaolefins. NMR analysis confirmed the presence of various short chain branches and toluene rings in the final polymer chains. Molecular modeling confirmed the ease of carbocation isomerization and chain transfer mechanisms in toluene medium, supporting the experimental observations.

Dual-site eutectic ionic liquids based microemulsion for boosting selective dimerization of isobutene

Jian Chen et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids (ILs) with strong interaction between acidic sites can improve the selectivity of butene oligomerization catalysts. Formation of eutectic ILs by adding alcohol can enhance butene solubility and catalytic performance. Moreover, construction of microemulsion by adding emulsifiers can enhance efficient contact between butene and catalyst. The strategies of employing dual-site eutectic ILs as the catalyst and microemulsion formation can achieve high conversion and target product selectivity simultaneously.

Application of alkali-treated MCM-22 zeolite in catalytic 1-decene oligomerization reaction

Fuqing Gong et al.

Summary: It was found that treating MCM-22 zeolite with NaOH significantly enhanced its catalytic activity in the oligomerization of 1-decene. Increasing the NaOH treatment time resulted in higher conversion rate and dimer selectivity. After being treated with a 0.1 mol/L NaOH solution for 7 hours, the conversion increased from 68% to 76% and dimer selectivity increased from 49% to 61%. The NaOH-treated MCM-22 zeolite showed improved catalytic performance even after regeneration by roasting at 550 degrees C.
