Catch Estimates and Species Composition of Recreational Fishing in Israel

Summary: In this study, an extensive survey was conducted to document and quantify recreational fishing patterns across the Israeli Mediterranean shoreline. The results showed that recreational fishing accounted for 10%-37% of the total annual fishing yields, similar to other regions of the Mediterranean. Non-indigenous species were found to be common in recreational catch and contributed significantly to local fishery yields. The study identified 23 species that are targeted by both recreational and commercial fishing, indicating potential conflicts between these fishing sectors.

Evaluation of Marine Recreational Fisheries and Their Relation to Sustainability of Fisheries Resources in Greece

A Model of Quota Prices in a Multispecies Fishery with Choke Species and Discarding

Summary: This study uses a two-stage optimization model to simulate the determination of market-clearing quota lease prices in a multispecies fishery. The results show that equilibrium quota prices are jointly determined and are sensitive to both the number of species and the heterogeneity of the fleet. Excess demand for quota can cause bidding up of the quota price and resulting in some vessels earning inframarginal rents. The impact of a deemed value charge for over-quota landings is also examined.

Analysis of small-scale fisheries value chain: An interview-based approach in Italian marine protected areas

Fishing tourism in Italy

Fishery management in a marine protected area with compliance gaps: Socio-economic and biological insights as a first step on the path of sustainability
