Evaluation of four macro-algae on growth performance, anti-oxidant capacity and non-specific immunity in golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus)

Jiajun Xie et al.

Summary: The nutritional feeding experiment showed that feeding Trachinotus ovatus with Porphyra haitanensis and Undaria pinnatifida as feed additives can significantly improve growth performance and antioxidant capacity in fish, as well as enhance the expression of digestion and immune-related genes. Villi length and muscle thickness were also positively affected by diets containing macro-algae.

Photoprotection effects of red seaweed meal (Grateloupia cf. turuturu) as feed ingredient in prawn Artemesia longinaris

Natalia Soledad Arzoz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of adding red seaweed meal to the diet of juvenile prawn Artemesia longinaris, and its protective effects against ultraviolet radiation. The results showed that the red seaweed meal can accumulate ultraviolet radiation absorbing compounds and enhance the prawns' resistance to ultraviolet radiation.

Dietary bioaccumulation of UV-absorbing compounds, and post-ingestive fitness in larval planktotrophic crustaceans from coastal SW Atlantic

M. Alejandra Marcoval et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of increased UV radiation on marine organisms, finding that UV-absorbing compounds can increase the tolerance of planktotrophic larvae to environmental UV radiation, but the acquired tolerance varies among larvae.

Environmental effects of stratospheric ozone depletion, UV radiation, and interactions with climate change: UNEP Environmental Effects Assessment Panel, Update 2020

R. E. Neale et al.

Summary: This assessment by the Environmental Effects Assessment Panel (EEAP) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) provides the latest scientific update on the interactive effects between stratospheric ozone layer, solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and climate change. It also addresses the impact of these global environmental changes on various aspects such as atmosphere, human health, ecosystems, and materials used in construction and technology. Furthermore, it assesses the transmission and environmental effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to solar UV radiation and the Montreal Protocol.
