Comparative evaluation of operational land imager sensor on board landsat 8 and landsat 9 for land use land cover mapping over a heterogeneous landscape

Shahfahad et al.

Summary: This study compares the accuracy of Landsat satellites' OLI and OLI-2 sensors in land use land cover (LULC) mapping. Image fusion techniques were applied to improve the spatial resolution of OLI and OLI-2 multispectral images, followed by LULC mapping using a support vector machine (SVM) classifier. The results demonstrate that OLI-2 provides more accurate LULC classification than OLI. Validation of the classified LULC maps reveals better performance of OLI-2 in distinguishing dense and sparse vegetation, as well as darker and lighter objects. The relationship between LULC maps and surface biophysical parameters using Local Moran's I also demonstrates the superiority of OLI-2 in LULC mapping compared to OLI.

Response of soil moisture and vegetation conditions in seasonal variation of land surface temperature and surface urban heat island intensity in sub-tropical semi-arid cities

Ahmed Ali Shahfahad et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the seasonal and spatial variations in land surface temperature (LST) and surface urban heat island intensity (SUHII) in eight semi-arid cities in India, and their relationship with soil moisture and vegetation conditions. The results showed that LST and SUHII exhibited significant variations, with higher values during spring and summer seasons and in outskirts areas of the cities. Soil moisture had a stronger impact on SUHII than vegetation conditions.

Waterborne diseases vulnerability analysis using fuzzy analytic hierarchy process: a case study of Azamgarh city, India

Uzma Ajmal et al.

Summary: This study used FAHP and geospatial analysis to identify vulnerable zones to waterborne diseases in Azamgarh city, India, with key factors being water quality index, irregular water supply, and improper sanitation. The results showed different levels of vulnerability zones in the city, with high vulnerable zones mostly located near the city center.

Analysis of peri-urban land use/land cover change and its drivers using geospatial techniques and geographically weighted regression

Mohd Waseem Naikoo et al.

Summary: The rate of LULC transformation to built-up areas is high in peri-urban areas of Indian metropolitan cities, with Delhi NCR experiencing significant increase in built-up area from 1990 to 2018. Migration and tertiary sector employment are identified as key drivers of built-up expansion in the region. Spatial heterogeneity in explanatory variables is observed throughout the study area. This study can provide valuable insights for urban policy makers and planners in developing master plans for cities like Delhi NCR.

An Integrated Approach for Determining the Anthropogenic Stress Responsible for Degradation of a Ramsar Site - Wular Lake in Kashmir, India

Saleha Jamal et al.

Summary: During the last fifteen years, there has been widespread water quality deterioration in Kashmir valley's water bodies due to increased anthropogenic interferences. This study aimed to monitor the water quality of Wular Lake by analyzing multiple datasets and inferring distinctions and similarities among different sampling sites. The findings revealed that the lake's water quality is highly affected by settlements, agriculture, and horticulture in its vicinity, leading to severe pollution.

Modelling urban heat island (UHI) and thermal field variation and their relationship with land use indices over Delhi and Mumbai metro cities

Shahfahad et al.

Summary: The study found that the land surface temperature in Delhi and Mumbai steadily increased from 1991 to 2018, with urban heat island zones being established and urban hotspots and areas with poor thermal comfort also increasing in both cities.

Land use/land cover (LU/LC) change dynamics using indices overlay method in Gautam Buddha Nagar District-India

Babita Kumari et al.

Summary: The study aims to analyze the dynamics of land use/ land cover change in a newly created special economic zone, Gautam Buddha Nagar district during 2003-2015. The result shows that the built-up area and open land have increased while cropland, scrubland, and water bodies have declined. The northern parts of the district have experienced maximum change in the LU/LC compared to the southern parts.
