Radiosensitivity and Biological Effects of Gamma and X-Rays on Germination and Seedling Vigour of Three Coffea arabica Varieties

Summary: The effects of gamma and X-ray treatments on the germination and seedling growth of coffee seeds were studied. The results showed that different varieties responded differently to the irradiation and doses, with 50-100 Gy being determined as the optimum dose. Therefore, gamma and X-rays can be used for mutational breeding of coffee seedlings in the future.

In vitro mutagenesis of Chrysanthemum morifolium cultivars using ethylmethanesulphonate (EMS) and mutation assessment by ISSR and IRAP markers

Summary: The study focused on mutagenesis of chrysanthemum cultivars using EMS as mutagen, resulting in a total of 2082 plantlets and 58 mutants with phenotypic and molecular variations. ISSR and IRAP markers successfully classified the mutants and their relationship with mother plants, demonstrating the effectiveness of in vitro EMS-induced mutation for breeding new chrysanthemum cultivars.

Spectrum and Density of Gamma and X-ray Induced Mutations in a Non-Model Rice Cultivar

Summary: In this study, the effect of physical mutagens on the spectrum and density of mutations in rice was explored. It was found that higher dosages of gamma radiation resulted in a higher accumulation of mutations, while this phenomenon was not observed in X-ray-treated plants. Single base substitutions were the most common type of mutation, followed by small indels and structural variants. The in vivo role of all annotated rice genes is yet to be investigated.

This study focused on the utility of ovaries excised from irradiated inflorescences of Chrysanthemum x morifolium as explants for breeding purposes. Results showed that genotype significantly influenced regeneration efficiency, with irradiation dose affecting the number and stability of inflorescence variations in regenerants.
