Nordic diet and its benefits in neurological function: a systematic review of observational and intervention studies

Reyhaneh Sadat Jafari et al.

Summary: Neurological disorders are a major cause of global disability and decreased quality of life. Lifestyle factors, including dietary patterns, play an important role in neurological function. The Nordic diet (ND) is believed to have protective effects on brain function. However, the effectiveness of the ND pattern in improving neurological function and brain health is not fully understood.

A review on differential effects of dietary fatty acids on weight, appetite and energy expenditure

Vahideh Behrouz et al.

Summary: The quality and quantity of dietary fatty acids play a significant role in weight, appetite, and energy expenditure. Saturated fatty acids have a greater impact on appetite control, while mono-unsaturated fats have stimulatory effects on energy expenditure and can be beneficial in long-term weight control. Poly unsaturated fats, including n-3 and n-6, have similar effects on increasing energy expenditure but act differently in controlling weight and appetite.

Hesperidin attenuates hepatic lipid accumulation in mice fed high-fat diet and oleic acid induced HepG2 via AMPK activation

Hao Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that hesperidin (HDN) can attenuate lipid accumulation in vivo and in vitro by activating AMPK, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic agent for treating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Hesperidin: A Review on Extraction Methods, Stability and Biological Activities

Krystyna Pyrzynska

Summary: Hesperidin, a bioflavonoid found in citrus fruits, has various health benefits such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anticarcinogenic properties. The food industry generates a significant amount of by-products from citrus fruits, which are also a rich source of hesperidin. Consequently, the extraction of hesperidin from these by-products has gained considerable scientific interest for its potential use as a natural antioxidant.

Effect of Hesperidin Supplementation on Liver Metabolomics and Gut Microbiota in a High-Fat Diet-Induced NAFLD Mice Model

Xiaoping Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism underlying the impact of hesperidin on nonalcoholic fatty liver. The results showed that hesperidin improved liver dysfunction and serum lipid profiles induced by a high-fat diet, altered the expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism, and changed the composition of the intestinal microbiota. Liver metabolomics analysis indicated that hesperidin enhanced the abundance of metabolites in specific pathways, which were predicted to be positively correlated with the gut bacteria enriched by hesperidin.

The efficacy of flaxseed and hesperidin on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: an open-labeled randomized controlled trial

Zahra Yari et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effects of flaxseed and hesperidin on patients with NAFLD. The results showed significant improvements in glucose and lipid metabolism, reduced inflammation, and hepatic steatosis in NAFLD patients after 12 weeks of dietary interventions. The combination of hesperidin and flaxseed also showed synergistic effects on plasma glucose concentration and HOMA-IR.

Inflammation initiates a vicious cycle between obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Yunfei Luo et al.

Summary: Obesity is characterized by low-level chronic inflammation activation, which is closely linked to Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and can lead to more severe inflammatory responses and health issues. Clarifying the pathogenesis of NAFLD is crucial for finding more treatment options, and understanding the relationship between obesity and NAFLD could provide new approaches for prevention and treatment.
