High-resolution livestock seasonal distribution data on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in 2020

Ning Zhan et al.

Summary: Incorporating seasonality into livestock spatial distribution is important for studying the interaction between climate, vegetation, water, and herder activities. This study provides the spatial distribution of livestock grazing on warm-season and cold-season pastures on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The random forest classification model and dasymetric mapping results show high accuracy in predicting the seasonal distribution of grazing.

Performance and parasitological parameters of steers sequentially grazed with lambs

Joken Bam et al.

Summary: This study conducted a sequential grazing trial with moderate anthelmintic intervention on cattle and sheep, and found that although the sequentially grazed steers showed elevated pepsinogen levels, it did not adversely affect their performance.

Genetic Characterization and Phylogenetic Analysis of Fasciola Species Isolated From Yaks on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, China

Xing Gao et al.

Summary: The present study determined the complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Fasciola intermediate (isolated from yaks) and explored its gene content and genome organization. The genome of Fasciola intermediate was found to be 13,960 bp in length and contained rRNA, PCGs, and tRNA genes. The AT bias significantly affected the codon usage pattern and amino acid composition of proteins. Additionally, a phylogenetic tree was constructed to provide genetic markers for further investigations in population genetics, systematics, and phylogeography of Fasciola intermediate.

What makes a good fecal egg count technique?

Martin K. Nielsen

Summary: Fecal egg counting techniques have been essential in parasitology research and clinical practice for over a century, but current issues such as lack of consensus on diagnostic parameters evaluation and confusing use of terminology exist. Clear guidelines are needed for validating fecal egg counting techniques in veterinary parasitology, emphasizing what should be evaluated, how studies could be designed, and how to appropriately analyze data.
