Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) and Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST): A case series and review of the literature

Nesrine Kallel et al.

Summary: A large proportion of COVID-19 patients have excessive coagulation activation and coagulopathy, making them prone to various thrombotic events. This report focuses on cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) as a potential neurological complication in COVID-19 patients. Three cases of COVID-19 patients with CVST are reported, along with a review of previously described cases. CVST was mainly observed in relatively young individuals with no or minimal comorbidities, and early diagnosis and anticoagulation treatment were associated with favorable outcomes.

Echocardiographic features in antiphospholipid-negative Sneddon's syndrome and potential association with severity of neurological symptoms or recurrence of strokes: a longitudinal cohort study

Florence Assan et al.

Summary: The study investigated cardiac involvement in aPL(-) SS patients and found no significant association between the development of LS endocarditis and severity or recurrence of neurological symptoms. Long-term follow-up is necessary to detect cardiac complications, and further research is needed to assess the effectiveness of treatment escalation.

Summary: Sneddon Syndrome is a rare chronic condition affecting blood vessels with skin and cerebrovascular symptoms, but not exclusive to these. The diagnosis of this syndrome can be difficult and requires comprehensive assessment based on medical history, symptoms, and laboratory tests.

Summary: Sneddon's syndrome is characterized by highly typical clinico-radiological features, with diagnostic value of brain MRI. Understanding the characteristics of the syndrome can prevent misdiagnosis and potentially harmful treatment.

Summary: Lymphocytic thrombophilic arteritis and Sneddon syndrome have similar clinical presentations of chronic persistent livedo racemosa, but the former is associated with a better prognosis while the latter can lead to multiple cerebrovascular accidents and progressive neurological impairment.

Sneddon syndrome: a comprehensive clinical review of 53 patients

N. L. P. Starmans et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed patients diagnosed with Sneddon syndrome (SS) between 1996 and 2017, and found that SS predominantly affects young women with a relatively large number of cardiovascular risk factors. The study results showed that there were few statistically significant differences between APL-positive and APL-negative patients in terms of vascular events before diagnosis.

Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis in COVID-19 Patients: A Multicenter Study and Review of Literature

Mohamad Abdalkader et al.

Summary: COVID-19 infection can predispose patients to both arterial and venous thromboembolic events, including CVST. Reviewing the clinical and radiological presentation of CVST in COVID-19 positive patients revealed that patients often presented with symptoms like headache, fever, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Clinicians should be vigilant about the risk of acute CVST in patients positive for COVID-19.
