Application of Single-Cell RNA Sequencing in Ovarian Development

Xiaoqin Gong et al.

Summary: The ovary is a vital female reproductive organ that plays a crucial role in fertility and endocrine homeostasis maintenance. It contains heterogeneous cellular subpopulations with unique functions, such as oocytes, granulosa cells, stromal cells, endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, and various immune cells. Changes in gene expression and communication between germ and somatic cells drive ovarian development. Single-cell RNA sequencing is a powerful tool that helps classify cell types, characterize individual cells, understand cellular developmental processes, and study cell-to-cell interactions in the ovary. This review provides insights into the transcriptome mapping of the ovary using single-cell technology, summarizes the characteristics of important ovarian cells and developmental processes, and highlights key signaling pathways involved in cell-to-cell communication. It greatly contributes to our understanding of ovarian cell biology and development, leading to the identification of new therapeutic targets for ovarian-related diseases.

Mechanisms of primordial follicle activation and new pregnancy opportunity for premature ovarian failure patients

Tuo Zhang et al.

Summary: Primordial follicles serve as the starting point for follicular development and are crucial for female reproduction. Once formed around birth, most primordial follicles enter a dormant state that cannot be reversed, leading to limited fertility and ovarian aging. Inhibiting the activation rate of primordial follicles can slow down follicle consumption and preserve fertility. The development of in vitro activation (IVA) techniques based on the understanding of primordial follicle activation mechanisms holds promise for treating infertility in different patient populations. This review explores the recent advances in understanding primordial follicle activation mechanisms and their clinical applications.

A Systematic Review of Genetics and Reproductive Health Outcomes: Asian Perspective

Cheryl Long et al.

Summary: Over the last four decades, advancements in ART have provided hope for those struggling with fertility issues. However, studies have shown that Asian women generally have lower reproductive success rates compared to Caucasians. Through a systematic review, we identified genes associated with ART outcomes in Asian ethnicities and proposed the development of an ethnic-specific biomarker panel to improve patient stratification and personalized treatment options.

Diagnosis of Idiopathic Premature Ovarian Failure by Color Doppler Ultrasound under the Intelligent Segmentation Algorithm

Lanlan Yu et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the application value of transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound based on the improved mean shift algorithm in the diagnosis of idiopathic premature ovarian failure (POF). The results showed that the segmentation results of the improved algorithm in this study were more superior to the segmentation results of other algorithms. The transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound based on the artificial intelligence segmentation algorithm can clearly show the functional status and hemodynamics of the patient's ovaries. The ovarian artery parameters PI and RI can be used as specific indicators for evaluating the POF.

Signaling pathway intervention in premature ovarian failure

Xuefeng Bai et al.

Summary: Premature ovarian failure (POF) is a multifactorial disease characterized by secondary amenorrhea, decreased estrogen levels, and increased gonadotropin levels in women under 40. The prevalence of POF is increasing and it has adverse effects on both the physiology and psychology of women. Hormone replacement therapy is the recommended treatment, and a multidisciplinary approach is needed to improve patients' quality of life. Recent studies suggest that the depletion of ovarian reserve function due to increased primordial follicular activation or insufficiency is the primary mechanism of POF. Therefore, understanding the processes and pathways involved in primordial follicle activation and exploring effective interventions are crucial for POF treatment.
