A precipitation reconstruction based on pinyon pine tree rings from the northeastern Mexican subtropic

Samuel Arroyo-Morales et al.

Summary: This study reconstructed the precipitation in northeastern Mexico from 1853 to 2018 using pinyon pines as a proxy and found that the precipitation variability is influenced by ENSO, causing extreme hydroclimatic events every 2 to 4 years. The results suggest the potential use of pinyon pines for determining dominant drought conditions in the region.

Deep Learning Method of Landslide Inventory Map with Imbalanced Samples in Optical Remote Sensing

Xuerong Chen et al.

Summary: Landslide inventory mapping is crucial for assessing landslide susceptibility and mitigating disasters. However, current machine learning algorithms and deep learning algorithms have limitations in handling imbalanced landslide samples. In this study, a full convolution networks with focus loss (FCN-FL) method and K-fold cross-validation training models (FCN-FLK) were proposed to improve the accuracy of landslide mapping. The results showed significant improvements compared to traditional methods and demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach for imbalanced sample classification in landslide inventory mapping.

Segmentation of Retinal Blood Vessels Using U-Net++ Architecture and Disease Prediction

Manizheh Safarkhani Gargari et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for blood vessel segmentation and disease diagnosis based on retinal images. The proposed method utilizes a deep learning approach with CNN and U-Net++ to achieve accurate segmentation and diagnosis. Results from the experiment show that the proposed method outperforms the manual approach applied by skilled ophthalmologists in terms of accuracy and sensitivity, as demonstrated on the DRIVE and MESSIDOR datasets.

Rethinking Semantic Segmentation: A Prototype View

Tianfei Zhou et al.

Summary: This study proposes a nonparametric semantic segmentation solution based on non-learnable prototypes. By optimizing the arrangement between embedded pixels and prototypes, dense prediction is achieved. Compared to prior parametric methods, our approach does not require learning individual weights/query vectors for each class, but represents each class using non-learnable prototypes. The nonparametric framework performs well on multiple datasets and model architectures.

Tianfei Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new approach to learn semantic segmentation from weakly-labeled data. By leveraging rich semantic contexts, specifically contrasting object regions and aggregating relational contexts, it enhances fine-grained semantic understanding and achieves state-of-the-art results on two popular benchmarks.

Understanding the Representativeness of Tree Rings and Their Carbon Isotopes in Characterizing the Climate Signal of Tajikistan

Yuting Fan et al.

Summary: The study developed tree-ring width and C-13 chronologies for juniper trees in northwest Tajikistan, finding that precipitation significantly affects tree growth and isotope enrichment. The stable carbon isotopes in tree rings provide powerful evidence of climatic signals and can be used to investigate inter-annual variations in climate. The need for more detailed studies on tree growth responses to changing climate and tree-ring isotopes is highlighted to understand source water variations in the juniper tree forest.
