Slip Casting and Solid-State Reactive Sintering of BCZY(BaCexZr0.9-xY0.1O3-d)-NiO/BCZY Half-Cells

Sandrine Ricote et al.

Summary: Slip casting was used to prepare BCZY-NiO tubes with different diameters for use as hydrogen electrodes. The study found that the sintered BCZY layer adhered well to the support layer, and gas tightness was achieved through a sealing layer. Short tubes were found to have advantages in reactor design.

Nickel-Containing Perovskites, PrNi0.4Fe0.6O3-δ and PrNi0.4Co0.6O3-δ, as Potential Electrodes for Protonic Ceramic Electrochemical Cells

Artem P. Tarutin et al.

Summary: Protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) offer an efficient means of converting chemical energy into electricity at low- and intermediate-temperature ranges. This study introduces new Ni-based perovskite phases for potential utilization in PCFCs, with detailed investigations into their functional properties and performance. While the Co-containing nickelate demonstrates excellent conductivity and polarization behavior, it also shows high reactivity with electrolytes and elevated thermal expansion coefficients; on the other hand, the iron-based nickelate exhibits superior chemical and thermal compatibility but poorer transport characteristics.

High-performance La0.5(Ba0.75Ca0.25)0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ cathode for proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells

Dong Xie et al.

Summary: The perovskite cathode material La-0.5(Ba0.75Ca0.25)(0.5)Co0.8Fe0.2O3-delta, with high electrical conductivity and catalytic activity, was used in proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells. When combined with the electrolyte BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.1Yb0.1O3-delta, it showed excellent electrochemical performance, low polarization resistance, and high peak power density. The oxygen reduction reaction was found to be limited by oxygen adsorption, dissociation, and diffusion processes.

Enhanced La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ-based cathode performance by modification of BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.1Yb0.1O3-δ electrolyte surface in protonic ceramic fuel cells

Hiroyuki Shimada et al.

Summary: By modifying the cathode/electrolyte interface with a porous BZCYYb interlayer (PBI) in PCFCs, the cathode performance has been significantly improved, achieving high power density at lower temperatures. The use of this interlayer enhances the cathode/electrolyte interfacial structure and increases the triple-phase boundary, resulting in improved overall performance of the fuel cell.

On a variation of the kinetics of hydrogen oxidation on Ni-BaCe(Y,Gd)O3 anode for proton ceramic fuel cells

E. P. Antonova et al.

Summary: The electrochemical behavior of Ni-based anodes for H+ solid oxide fuel cells was studied, showing that Ni-BaCe0.8Y0.2O3-5 exhibited poorer performance compared to Ni-BaCe0.89Gd0.1Cu0.01O3-5. The hydrogen oxidation rate on the Ni-BaCe0.89Gd0.1Cu0.01O3-5 anode in the temperature range of 700-900 degrees C was determined by the rate of the three stages, while at 600 degrees C, the reaction mechanism became more complicated due to the influence of increased protonic conductivity in the electrolyte.
