A review on gasification and pyrolysis of waste plastics

Hamad Hussain Shah et al.

Summary: Gasification and pyrolysis are thermal processes that convert carbonaceous substances into tar, ash, coke, char, and gas. Gasification transforms carbon-containing products into primarily gaseous product, while pyrolysis produces char, tar, and gas. The composition and quantities of products depend on the overall process configuration and fuel input. This study evaluates waste plastics valorization routes for gaseous and liquid products, examining process specifications such as reactor type, temperatures, residence time, pressure, gas type, flow rate, and catalysts. Gasification and pyrolysis are expected to become more common due to public opinion on waste incineration and their ability to conserve waste energy.
