Strategic design of cellulose nanofibers@zeolitic imidazolate frameworks derived mesoporous carbon-supported nanoscale CoFe2O4/CoFe hybrid composition as trifunctional electrocatalyst for Zn-air battery and self-powered overall water-splitting

Fuling Wang et al.

Summary: A novel strategy for constructing high-efficient electrocatalyst is reported, which involves pyrolysis of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) coated with bimetal-zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) of ZIF-67/ZIF-8. The resulting FeZn4Co@CNFs catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity and cycling stability, and outperforms Pt/C and RuO2 catalysts.

Experimental investigation on the high-pressure sand suspension and adsorption capacity of guar gum fracturing fluid in low-permeability shale reservoirs: factor analysis and mechanism disclosure

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of different factors on the high-pressure static sand suspension of guar gum fracturing fluid using a synthetic efficient nano-ZrO2 cross-linker. The results show that the inclusion of a small content of nano-ZrO2 cross-linker leads to increased fracturing fluid viscosity and decreased gravel falling quality. The investigation of nano-cross-linker not only provides necessary theoretical technology and data support for the stability of water-based fracturing fluid, efficient sand carrying, and the development of water-based fracturing technology, but also effectively protects the underground shale reservoir.

Permeability of a coal seam with respect to fractal features of pore space of fossil coals

Tatyana Vasilenko et al.

Summary: The results of permeability calculations using the Kozeny-Carman model were reported, showing that the model's applicability is proven when total porosity and specific surface area are known. Through fractal theory, it was demonstrated that a decrease in fractal dimension with increasing coal bed depth results in larger macropore volume, enhancing permeability and gas content in deep coal beds.

Compressional and shear wave velocities relationship in anisotropic organic shales

Xuan Qin et al.

Summary: Understanding the relationship between compressional and shear wave velocities and their anisotropic characteristics in self-resourcing reservoir shales is important for exploring and producing unconventional resources. This study compiles laboratory measurements of shale reservoirs worldwide and finds that the velocities can be characterized by a linear model with coefficients of determination close to 0.9. The P-to-S-wave velocity ratio is higher in the vertical direction and decreases with decreasing P-wave velocity due to organic matter content and hydrocarbon-filled porosity. Mineralogy has a minor influence on the relationship. By employing anisotropic fluid substitution, the study shows that the model derived from laboratory measurements can be applied to shale reservoirs containing gas or volatile oil. Vertical well predictions using the linear models show less than 3% errors, demonstrating their effectiveness in predicting shear wave velocity in unconventional shale reservoirs.

Hydrate as a by-product in CO2 leakage during the long-term sub-seabed sequestration and its role in preventing further leakage

Qingchao Li et al.

Summary: Subsurface sequestration of CO2 produced by industrial production is an effective way to control greenhouse gas emissions and potential global warming. However, leakage of CO2 in long-term sub-seabed sequestration poses a significant threat to the marine environment. This study explores the secondary sequestration mechanism of leaked CO2 in hydrate-bearing sediment and analyzes the impact of hydrate saturation and sediment thickness. The findings demonstrate that hydrate plays a crucial role in secondary sequestration by filling migration channels in sediment. By optimizing the characteristics of hydrate-bearing sediment, leakage of CO2 can be effectively sequestrated.

Study of hierarchical structure of fossil coals by small-angle scattering of thermal neutrons

T. Vasilenko et al.

Summary: This study used small-angle neutron scattering to analyze the structure characteristics of 27 coals, and found that the fractal dimension of coal is related to pore surface, coalification degree, and coal seam outburst propensity. Outburst hazardous coals typically have higher fractal dimensions, with mass fractals formed by mineral inclusions containing iron and sulfur.

Production of Isotropic Coke from Shale Tar at Various Parameters of the Delayed Coking Process

Maxim Yu Nazarenko et al.

Summary: This paper presents the results of studies on the production of coke at different excess pressures with delayed coking of shale tar obtained by pyrolysis of oil shale, analyzing properties such as absolute density, volatile substances yield, ash content, and total porosity. The microstructure of the resulting coke was analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), confirming an isotropic structure. In addition, the fractional composition of gasoline and gas oil fractions obtained from the delayed coking of shale resin was also analyzed.

Quantitative Determination of Trace Heavy Metals and Selected Rock-Forming Elements in Porous Carbon Materials by the X-ray Fluorescence Method

Vladimir G. Povarov et al.

Summary: A new XRF method is proposed for impurity quantification in elements heavier than sodium in carbon materials, suitable for various materials with impurity content higher than 0.01%, such as petroleum cokes. The method provides the same sensitivity and accuracy as the regular additive method, with much greater reproducibility, and can be easily implemented on commercial analytical equipment without the need for changes in instrument software.
