Effects of microfractures on permeability in carbonate rocks based on digital core technology

Changfu Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a quantitative method for evaluating the impact of different microfracture parameters on carbonate rock permeability. The results show that increases in fracture length, aperture, and density linearly increase the permeability of carbonate rocks, and an exponential increase in permeability is observed when the fracture length penetrates the entire core. Additionally, microfractures have a more significant effect on high-permeability cores, and fractures have a greater impact on permeability compared to matrix permeability.

A new upscaling method for microscopic fluid flow based on digital rocks

Qinzhuo Liao et al.

Summary: This study presents a new method to simplify the three-dimensional pore-scale simulation based on digital rocks, resulting in significant improvement in computational speed. By decoupling the simulation into multiple two-dimensional ones and then using the finite difference method for the three-dimensional simulation, computational costs are reduced while accurate results are obtained. Validations using sandstone and carbonate rock samples show significant enhancement in computational speed.

Tao Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanisms and models of dynamic continuous hydrocarbon accumulation (DCHA) and provides empirical evidence using a well-known case in the Bohai Bay Basin in eastern China. The results show that DCHA is a superimposed accumulation of multiple petroleum reservoir types with varying sources, charging times, forces, and modes.

Physical properties of lacustrine shale oil: A case study on the lower member of the Lucaogou Formation (Jimusaer Sag, Junggar Basin, NW China)

Liu Shiju et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the spatial variations and controlling mechanisms of shale oil in the Junggar Basin, China, from the perspective of the primary depositional environment, source rock thermal evolution, and fractionation effects of primary migration. A predictive model for changes in crude oil density and viscosity was established based on detailed organic petrological and geochemical characterization. The study found that source rock thermal evolution and sedimentary environment are the main factors affecting crude oil quality, while the fractionation effect of primary migration has little impact.

Multi-scale characterization of unconventional tight carbonate reservoir: Insights from October oil filed, Gulf of Suez rift basin, Egypt

Ahmed E. Radwan et al.

Summary: The Radwany Formation in the Gulf of Suez region has been newly identified as a potential reservoir rock with a combination of depositional and diagenetic processes creating various porosity types. Petrophysical evaluations and geochemical analysis have indicated the presence of unconventional and conventional hydrocarbon resources in this formation, particularly in the basal part, making it a valuable area for exploration. The study also highlights the importance of understanding the link between sediment microfacies and petrophysical parameters for predicting hydrocarbon potential in the area.

Improved test method for convection heat transfer characteristics of carbonate fractures after acidizing etching

Hongyang Zhan et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to analyze the convection heat transfer characteristics of carbonate fractures after acidizing etching using an improved test method under real-time high temperature and high confining pressure. The results indicated that the temperature differences between the fracture surface and the flowing water significantly affect the heat transfer coefficient under different confining pressures, fracture roughness, and flow rates.
