Exploring the separation mechanism of Gemini surfactant in scheelite froth flotation at low temperatures: Surface characterization, DFT calculations and kinetic simulations

Chenquan Ni et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel cryogenic collector, Hexane-1,6-didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (HDDA), was used instead of dodecylamine (DDA) for the recovery of scheelite at low temperatures. It was found that HDDA showed higher flotation efficiency compared to DDA at both ambient and low temperatures. The adsorption mechanism of HDDA on scheelite and calcite was investigated and confirmed to be mainly based on electrostatic interactions.

Experimental Evaluation of a Polymer Foam Agent on the Foam Stability, Concern to Surfactant, Nanoparticle, and Salinity

Ronak Parvaneh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the factors influencing foam stability, and found that under experimental conditions, the stabilizer of nanosilica has a better stability than the hydroxyethyl cellulose polymer; also, an optimal salinity concentration can enhance the performance and stability of the foam.

An investigation of viscous oil displacement in a fractured porous medium using polymer-enhanced surfactant alternating foam flooding

Ahmed Bashir et al.

Summary: Foam flooding is recommended for naturally fractured reservoirs, but it faces challenges in heavy oil reservoirs. This study investigates a new hybrid enhanced oil recovery process called polymer-enhanced surfactant alternating foam (PESAF) flooding, which proves effective in displacing high viscosity oils in fractured porous media.

Probing the Coalescence Mechanism of Oil Droplets in Fluids Produced by Oil Wells and the Microscopic Interaction between Molecules in Oil Films

Bin Huang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of oil droplet coalescence on the stability of emulsion, and establishes a model that can simulate the phenomenon of oil droplet coalescence. Through experiments and molecular dynamics simulation technology, the coalescence behaviors of emulsified oil droplets in fluids produced by oil wells are studied. Factors affecting the coalescence of emulsified oil droplets are analyzed. The results show that the fluid velocity at the position where two oil droplets are close to each other is relatively high. The coalescence of oil droplets leads to a stable emulsion system.

The Effect of Inclination on the Stability of Foam Systems in Drilling and Well Operations

Abhishek Govindu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of wellbore inclination on the stability of various types of foams and develops a method to account for the effect of inclination on foam stability. Results show that the drainage rate of foam in an inclined configuration was significantly higher than that observed in a vertical orientation, exacerbating foam drainage and instability. The mechanisms of foam drainage are different in an inclined configuration, with drainage occurring both axially and laterally, leading to faster liquid drainage and aggravating the process considerably.

Formation and stability of oil-laden foam: Effect of surfactant and hydrocarbon solvent

Feng Lin et al.

Summary: Oil-laden foams, formed with sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) or Triton X-100 (TX-100) in water-pentane mixture, exhibited different stability behaviors depending on surfactant concentration. SDS was found to produce more stable foam than TX-100 at the same critical micelle concentration (CMC). The stability of oil-laden foams was contradictory to the classic theory predictions, with very high foam stability observed at high surfactant concentration and medium to high pentane contents.

Visualization study of polymer enhanced foam (PEF) flooding for recovery of waterflood residual oil: Effect of cross flow

Farshad Rezaeiakmal et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that in heterogeneous reservoirs, polymer enhanced foam (PEF) flooding is more effective in improving oil recovery compared to conventional foam, providing a higher ultimate oil recovery rate. PEF exhibits better stability and performance through the cross-flow mechanism especially at higher permeability contrasts in porous media.
