Effect of TiO2 nanoparticles on the tribological properties of lubricating oil: an experimental investigation

Corina Birleanu et al.

Summary: Nano-lubricants have shown improved tribological properties in various applications. This study investigates the effects of TiO2 nanoparticles on the wear, friction, and anti-wear abilities of lubricating oil at different concentrations. The results demonstrate that surface-modified TiO2 nanoparticles can significantly enhance load-carrying capacity, reduce friction, and improve anti-wear properties of the additive oil.

Summary: Orthopedic implants reinforced with titanium dioxide nanoparticles via dopamine-induced polymerization and coated with hydroxyapatite show enhanced mechanical strength and biocompatibility. PEEK with internal TiO2 reinforcement improves bone cell proliferation and differentiation, while the HA coating leads to increased osteoblast absorption. Micro-CT and histological analyses confirm new bone formation and high bone-to-implant contact ratio on the HA-coated PEEK structure reinforced with TiO2 nanoparticles.

A study of influence of hydraulic pressure on micro-hydromechanical deep drawing considering size effects and surface roughness

Liang Luo et al.

Summary: Micro-hydromechanical deep drawing (MHDD) is a promising micro-manufacturing technology for batch fabrication of micro-metallic products, with size effects significantly affecting material properties and friction. This study investigates the combined influence of fluid pressure, surface roughness, and material inhomogeneity on blank through MHDD experiments and advanced FE simulation. Results show successful drawing of micro-cups with wrinkles occurring under high hydraulic pressures, indicating the importance of optimal hydraulic pressure considering size effects and tool geometry in MHDD.
