Absolute Stereochemistry Determination of Bioactive Marine-Derived Cyclopeptides by Liquid Chromatography Methods: An Update Review (2018-2022)

Carla Fernandes et al.

Summary: Cyclopeptides derived from marine sources are important due to their structural diversity and biological activities. The determination of their absolute configurations is challenging, but can be achieved through acidic hydrolysis and liquid chromatography (LC) analysis. Recent works have identified 91 previously unreported marine-derived cyclopeptides, with many displaying anticancer or antimicrobial activities. LC analysis using Marfey's method was the most frequently employed technique for absolute stereochemical assignment.

Chiral-engineered supraparticles: Emerging tools for drug delivery

Mahfoozur Rahman et al.

Summary: The handedness of chiral-engineered supraparticles (CE-SPs) affects their interactions with cells and proteins. D-chirality-coordinated SPs show increased penetration of breast, cervical, and myeloma cell membranes. Chiral-specific interactions have been investigated through quartz crystal dissipation and isothermal titration calorimetry. D-SPs exhibit greater thermodynamic stability and longer half-lives due to their ability to shield endogenous proteins with opposite chirality. Incorporating nanosystems with D-chirality enhances drug delivery and in vivo stability, highlighting the importance of chirality in biomaterials.
