Effect of the formulation on mucoadhesive spray-dried microparticles containing iron for food fortification

Alberto Baldelli et al.

Summary: Iron fortification through spray-dried microparticles can alleviate iron deficiency. The optimal formulation consists of equal weight percentages of iron compound, bulk material, and wall material, resulting in small particle size and high bioavailability. Encapsulation of iron gluconate reduces toxicity, while encapsulated iron fumarate decreases absorption.

Sprayed microcapsules of minerals for fortified food

Alberto Baldelli et al.

Summary: Mineral deficiencies are a major issue affecting millions of people globally, especially in developing countries. Food fortification is a viable solution to enhance mineral content in commonly consumed food items. However, the drawbacks of nutrient loss during fortification can be mitigated through encapsulation using spray drying techniques. However, further research is required to fully comprehend the particle formation process and identify optimal materials for effective mineral encapsulation. This review article provides a comprehensive guideline for selecting appropriate bulk and wall materials to create mineral capsules for incorporation into common foods such as dairy products, carbohydrates, tea, and coffee.

Ruihuan Ding et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop a promising formulation for oral liraglutide administration. Cationic liposomes (CLs) linked to AT-1002 were prepared using a double-emulsion method, and BSA was adsorbed on the surface of the AT-CLs, resulting in protein corona cationic liposomes with AT-1002 (Pc-AT-CLs). The Pc-AT-CLs had a particle size of 202.9 +/- 12.4 nm, a potential of 1.76 +/- 4.87 mV, and an encapsulation efficiency of 84.63 +/- 5.05%.
