Screening of Rosemary Essential Oils with Different Phytochemicals for Antioxidant Capacity, Keratinocyte Cytotoxicity, and Anti-Proliferative Activity

Yeqin Huang et al.

Summary: Nowadays, there is an increasing demand for rosemary essential oils (REOs) in various industries. This study evaluated and compared the bioactivities of REOs from six different cultivars. The results showed that REOs have good cellular antioxidant activity and Dutch Mill' REO exhibited the highest antioxidant activity due to its verbenone content. Moreover, REOs rich in alpha-pinene were found to be more toxic to human keratinocytes.

Green synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles for reducing the damage to sperm parameters in diabetic compared to metformin

Iman A. Mohammed Ali et al.

Summary: The present study utilized physics to synthesize silver nanoparticles using an aqueous extract of fresh garlic as a reducing and stabilizing agent in a silver nitrate solution. This environmentally friendly method yielded stable silver nanoparticles, as confirmed through optical detection and other characterization assays. The study also found that the silver nanoparticles exhibited good stability and had positive effects on sperm treatments, suggesting potential applications in treating impotence and other diseases without side effects. Evaluation of the toxic effects of silver nanoparticles and further tests on their efficacy in various conditions were also conducted. Evaluation period for testing the effects on male sex cells was a complete life cycle of male sex cells within a long period of time at an average nano size, a unique aspect compared to previous studies. The score for the importance of this article is: 8/10.

Aptamers as Smart Ligands for Targeted Drug Delivery in Cancer Therapy

Zongyi Wei et al.

Summary: Undesirable side effects and multidrug tolerance are major challenges in conventional chemotherapy for cancer treatment. Targeted drug delivery using aptamers as smart ligands can enhance drug accumulation at the target site and minimize toxicity to normal tissues and cells. Aptamers have high target affinity and specificity, making them attractive ligands for targeted drug delivery. This article reviews the application of aptamers in cancer therapy, focusing on their use as smart ligands, conjugation with nanocarriers, targeting strategies for the tumor microenvironment, and specific aptamers for crucial cancer biomarkers.
