Effect of DPP4/CD26 expression on SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility, immune response, adenosine (derivatives m62A and CD) regulations on patients with cancer and healthy individuals

Jiaman Du et al.

Summary: The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic was caused by a new coronavirus called SARS Cov-2. The marker/receptor Dipeptidyl peptidase 4/CD26(DPP4/CD26) may play a crucial role in determining susceptibility to tumors and coronaviruses. However, the regulation of DPP4 in COVID-invaded cancer patients and its role on small molecule compounds remain unclear.

Methyltransferase-like 3 promotes cervical cancer metastasis by enhancing cathepsin L mRNA stability in an N6-methyladenosine-dependent manner

Pingping Liu et al.

Summary: METTL3 is upregulated in cervical cancer tissue and its upregulation is associated with a poor prognosis in cervical cancer patients. Knockdown of METTL3 reduces cervical cancer cell migration and invasion, while overexpression of METTL3 promotes cervical cancer cell metastasis. Furthermore, METTL3 mediates the m6A modification of CTSL mRNA and IGF2BP2 enhances CTSL mRNA stability through binding to the m6A sites. These findings provide insights into a novel m6A modification pattern involved in cervical cancer development.

The Correlation Between Immune Invasion and SARS-COV-2 Entry Protein ADAM17 in Cancer Patients by Bioinformatic Analysis

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: This study explores the expression and role of ADAM17 in cancer patients infected with COVID-19. It reveals that ADAM17 is highly expressed in tumors and is negatively correlated with patient prognosis. Moreover, ADAM17 expression is significantly associated with immune cell infiltration and immunomodulators in both tumor and normal tissues. The study also suggests that drugs targeting ADAM17 may have therapeutic significance in combating COVID-19.

The speckle-type POZ protein (SPOP) inhibits breast cancer malignancy by destabilizing TWIST1

Chunli Wei et al.

Summary: This study reveals a new mechanism by which SPOP regulates TWIST1 degradation in breast cancer, suppressing cancer cell migration and invasion. The expression levels of SPOP and TWIST1 are closely associated with the prognosis of breast cancer patients, particularly those with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer.

Current and future burden of breast cancer: Global statistics for 2020 and 2040

Melina Arnold et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide, with over 2.3 million new cases and 685,000 deaths in 2020. There is significant geographic variation in incidence rates, with lower rates in some Asian and African countries and higher rates in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Northern America, and parts of Europe. Mortality rates show less variation, but transitioning countries still bear a disproportionate burden of breast cancer deaths. By 2040, the burden of breast cancer is predicted to increase further due to population growth and ageing. Global efforts are needed to address this growing burden, especially in transitioning countries where incidence rates are rising rapidly and mortality rates remain high.

COVID-19 receptor and malignant cancers: Association of CTSL expression with susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2

Lianmei Zhang et al.

Summary: CTSL is highly expressed in both normal and cancer tissues, especially in lung tissue, and plays a critical role in regulating cancer progression and SARS-CoV-2 entry. High expression of CTSL is associated with poor prognosis and severity of COVID-19 in lung cancer and glioma patients. In addition, CD and m(2)(6)A can inhibit CTSL expression, suggesting the therapeutic potential of targeting CTSL for cancer and COVID-19 treatment.

Yanchun Li et al.

Summary: Researchers have modified the structure of asperphenamate to enhance its inhibitory activity against cathepsin L, with some derivatives showing stronger potency and selectivity, such as B-2a. Additionally, B-2a exhibits significant antimetastatic ability, making it a promising candidate for further studies.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Cathepsin L plays a key role in SARS-CoV-2 infection in humans and humanized mice and is a promising target for new drug development

Miao-Miao Zhao et al.

Summary: CTSL plays a crucial role in COVID-19 patients, with its levels positively correlated with disease severity. Research showed that CTSL promotes SARS-CoV-2 virus entry into cells, and the CTSL inhibitor amantadine can inhibit this process, providing a direction for the development of new anti-COVID-19 drugs.
