Can We Rationally Design and Operate Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition Systems for Steering the Growth Regime of Thin Films?

Joao Pedro Vale et al.

Summary: Spatial atomic layer deposition (SALD) is a thin-film deposition technique that allows precise control over film growth without the need for vacuum. Through numerical simulation, design maps and a predictive equation were developed to predict the growth regime of SALD systems under different conditions. This provides researchers with a convenient way to design, operate, and optimize SALD systems.

Effect of annealing atmosphere on MgO thin film for tunneling magnetoresistance sensor

Mongkol Kongtungmon et al.

Summary: In this study, MgO thin films were annealed at different temperatures and atmospheres, and their structure, morphology, chemical composition, and thickness were investigated. It was found that increasing annealing temperature in air atmosphere led to an increase in film thickness and roughness due to grain growth induced by magnesium hydroxide formation. On the other hand, annealing in argon had little effect on the film's thickness and roughness, and the dielectric breakdown and hardness of the film increased.

Oxynitride-Encapsulated Silver Nanowire Transparent Electrode with Enhanced Thermal, Electrical, and Chemical Stability

Jatin J. Patil et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for fast deposition of metal oxynitride encapsulant layer on silver nanowires (AgNWs) to improve their electrical, thermal, and chemical stability. The encapsulant layers of AlOxNy, TiOxNy, and ZrOxNy demonstrate exceptional chemical, thermal, and electrical stability respectively. This method, which leverages reactive sputtering under moderate base pressures, is compatible with roll-to-roll processes and can be extended to various vacuum-compatible substrates and device architectures.

Conformal Encapsulation of Silver Nanowire Transparent Electrodes by Nanosized Reduced Graphene Oxide Leading to Improved All-Round Stability

Woo Hyun Chae et al.

Summary: Solution-processed silver nanowire (AgNW) networks, with excellent optoelectronic properties and low cost, are promising as next-generation transparent conductive electrodes. However, AgNWs are prone to fragmentation and degradation, and a protective coating is needed to improve their stability. This study presents a facile method using reduced graphene oxide to coat the AgNW network, resulting in improved transparency, resistance, and thermal and electrothermal stability. This approach represents an effective and low-cost strategy to enhance the overall operational resilience of metal nanowire-based transparent conductive electrodes.

Chemical deposition of Cu2O films with ultra-low resistivity: correlation with the defect landscape

Abderrahime Sekkat et al.

Summary: By using atmospheric pressure spatial atomic layer deposition, Cu2O thin films with ultra-low resistivity values were deposited at low temperatures. The properties of the films, such as carrier concentration, mobility, and optical band-gap, can be easily tuned by adjusting the oxygen fraction used during deposition. The defect landscape of the films is correlated to the overall defect concentration, which decreases with increasing oxygen fraction.

Structural and Optical Properties of MgO Thin Films Prepared by Dip-Coating Process: Effect of Thickness

R. Aouati et al.

Summary: In this study, magnesium oxide (MgO) thin films with different thicknesses were successfully developed on glass substrates using the sol-gel dip-coating technique. The influence of film thickness on the structural, optical, and morphological properties was investigated. The results showed that the deposited films had a polycrystalline face-centered cubic structure along (200) and (220) directions. The transmittance decreased with increasing film thickness, while the optical band gap increased. The microstructure changed from inhomogeneous grains distribution to islands shapes distributed on a homogeneous surface with increasing film thickness.

Transparent and Mechanically Resistant Silver-Nanowire-Based Low-Emissivity Coatings

Sebastien Hanauer et al.

Summary: This study reports on the fabrication and investigation of low-emissivity coatings based on silver nanowires (AgNWs), which exhibit low emissivity and transparency. However, the poor intrinsic surface adhesion of AgNWs makes the coating fragile. Two efficient encapsulation processes involving conformal alumina thin film deposition and solution processed layer deposition of polysiloxane varnish have been developed to address this weakness, resulting in mechanically resistant low-E coatings with excellent optical transmittance properties.

Influences of oxygen source and substrate temperature on the unusual growth mechanism of atomic layer deposited magnesium oxide using bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium precursor

Bo Wen Wang et al.

Summary: This research investigates the atomic layer deposition mechanism of MgO thin film using different oxygen sources, revealing the effects of oxygen source type and growth temperature on film growth behavior. An abnormal 'overgrowth' behavior was observed in O-3-based ALD, while Mg-hydrides affected growth when insufficient H2O purging time was provided. The study also suggests a mechanism involving carbonate intermediates and Cp-ring rupture for growth.
