Effects of β-amyloid (1-42) Administration on the Main Neurogenic Niches of the Adult Brain: Amyloid-Induced Neurodegeneration Influences Neurogenesis

Konstantin Yenkoyan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the development of Alzheimer's disease and the brain's defense mechanisms against chronic injuries. The results showed that injection of beta-amyloid can induce stem cell proliferation and neurogenesis, but this process is incomplete and leads to neural stem cell immaturity. The study suggests that enhancing adult neurogenesis may be a promising strategy for preventing and treating Alzheimer's disease.

Relationship between adult subventricular neurogenesis and Alzheimer's disease: Pathologic roles and therapeutic implications

Hyeon Soo Kim et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by irreversible cognitive declines. Impairment of adult subventricular zone neurogenesis has been identified as an important pathology in the disease. This review summarizes recent progress in understanding the alterations of adult subventricular zone neurogenesis in Alzheimer's disease animal models and patients, and discusses potential therapeutic approaches for restoring impaired neurogenesis.

Enriched Environment Promotes Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis through FGFRs

Marta Gronksa-Peski et al.

Summary: Research shows that an enriched environment promotes adult neurogenesis by increasing the function of fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) within neurogenic cells. Activation of FGFR by an enriched environment signals through FGFR substrate (FRS) to induce stem cell proliferation and via FRS and phospholipase C gamma to increase the number of adult-born neurons.

Fibroblast Growth Factor Signalling in the Diseased Nervous System

Lars Klimaschewski et al.

Summary: Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) play a crucial role in brain development, maintenance, and repair by influencing the complex relationships between myelinating cells, axons, astrocytic and microglial processes, and neuronal perikarya and synapses. Recent advances in molecular genetics and imaging techniques have provided new insights into FGF signaling, particularly in understanding the functional significance of neuronal and glial FGF receptors in tissue protection, axon regeneration, glial proliferation, and immediate behavioral changes. This review summarizes recent findings on the role of FGFs and their receptors in the nervous system and major neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Knockout of c-Cbl slows EGFR endocytic trafficking and enhances EGFR signaling despite incompletely blocking receptor ubiquitylation

Brandon L. M. Crotchett et al.

Summary: Preventing the downregulation of EGFR is proposed as an alternative mechanism for enhancing signaling and promoting corneal restoration. Knockout of c-Cbl leads to prolonged EGFR phosphorylation and sustained signaling, resulting in enhanced downstream signaling with altered receptor ubiquitylation and endocytic trafficking. MAPK phosphorylation remains sustained for a longer period in c-Cbl knockout cells.
