Carbon nanotubes and nanobelts as potential materials for biosensor

Seyyed Mostafa Monavari et al.

Summary: We used an ab initio quantum mechanical approach to investigate the electronic response of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and a carbon nanobelt (CNB) to N-linked and O-linked SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoproteins. We found that chiral semiconductor CNTs and CNBs show significant changes in their electronic band gaps and electron density of states (DOS) in the presence of glycoproteins, indicating their potential in distinguishing different types of glycoproteins. These findings suggest that CNBs and chiral CNTs could be used for sequential analysis of N- and O-linked glycosylation of the spike protein.

A review on characteristics studies on carbon nanotubes-based cement concrete

Breetha Yesudhas Jayakumari et al.

Summary: Concrete, composed of aggregates, cement, water, and possible admixtures, has been crucial in the construction industry throughout history. The integration of nanomaterials, particularly carbon nanotubes (CNTs), has facilitated the development of high-strength concrete with enhanced binding properties and the ability to self-heal. These CNTs, which consist of carbon and have nanometer-scale dimensions, offer various benefits such as reduced cracking, permeability, and maintenance, as well as improved durability, strength, and self-sensing capabilities. Their addition also enhances fracture energy and toughness. This paper investigates the dispersion characteristics, microstructure analysis, compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength of CNT-incorporated nano concrete, suggesting its potential as an alternative high-strength concrete in the construction industry.
