Shear-wave elastography-based nomograms predicting 21-gene recurrence score for adjuvant chemotherapy decisions in patients with breast cancer

Ji Hyun Youk et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate nomograms using shear-wave elastography (SWE) and clinicopathologic features to predict Oncotype DX recurrence score (RS) for guiding adjuvant systemic therapy decisions. In a retrospective study, patients who underwent breast cancer surgery between August 2011 and December 2019 were divided into a development set and an independent validation set. Logistic regression was used to assess clinicopathologic features and SWE elasticity indices in order to develop nomograms for predicting RS >= 16 and >= 26. The performance of the nomograms was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC).

Feasibility of Shear Wave Elastography Imaging for Evaluating the Biological Behavior of Breast Cancer

Chaoxu Liu et al.

Summary: The study suggests that shear wave elastography (SWE) parameters, including E-max, SD, and AR, can be used to evaluate the biological behavior of breast cancer. There is no significant association between SWE parameters and pathological type or histopathological classification, but an increase in histological grade of invasive ductal carcinoma is associated with increased SD and S-max values. SWE parameters are also related to ALN status, LVI status, ER and PR expression, HER2 status, and Ki-67 expression. Ki-67, ER, and LVI are independent influencing factors of SWE parameters.

Transcriptional repression of estrogen receptor alpha by YAP reveals the Hippo pathway as therapeutic target for ER+ breast cancer

Shenghong Ma et al.

Summary: This study reveals the involvement of Hippo signalling in the transcriptional repression of ESR1 and its impact on ER+ breast cancer. The inhibition of LATS can effectively repress ESR1 expression and inhibit the growth of ER+ breast cancer cells. The findings highlight LATS as a potential therapeutic target for endocrine-resistant breast cancers.

Summary: The study demonstrates the high diagnostic value of SWE examination in axillary node metastasis of breast cancer, as it can be used as a routine auxiliary method of CUE. There were no significant differences in elastic modulus values among different molecular types of breast cancer.

The clinical significance of HER2 expression in DCIS

Ioanna Akrida et al.

Summary: HER2 plays a prognostic and predictive role in patients with invasive breast cancer, but its significance in DCIS patients is unclear. HER2-positive DCIS cases may be associated with adverse clinicopathological parameters and increased recurrence rates.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

YAP, CTGF and Cyr61 are overexpressed in tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer and induce transcriptional repression of ERα

Hyungjoo Kim et al.

Summary: The study found that in tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer, YAP, CTGF, and Cyr61 are overexpressed while ER alpha is downregulated. Inhibition of YAP, CTGF, and Cyr61 can restore ER alpha expression and increase sensitivity to tamoxifen. CTGF and Cyr61 downregulate ER alpha expression at the transcriptional level by directly binding to the regulatory regions of the ER alpha-encoding gene, leading to increased tamoxifen resistance.
