Comparative Burden of Metabolic Dysfunction in Lean NAFLD vs Non-lean NAFLD-A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Ansel Tang et al.

Summary: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is commonly associated with obesity, but there is a subtype called lean NAFLD that occurs without obesity. However, there is a debate about whether NAFLD should be redefined to focus on obesity and metabolic dysfunction. This analysis reveals that lean individuals with NAFLD have significantly less metabolic dysfunction compared to obese and overweight individuals with NAFLD.

What's New in the Treatment of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Marcin Kosmalski et al.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a serious health problem with high incidence and consequences. This review evaluates recent studies on the treatment of NAFLD patients, including diet, physical activity, supplementation, surgery, and guidelines. The results show significant benefits of various diets, enrichment with selected food products or supplements, and moderate aerobic physical training. Therapeutic options include weight reduction drugs, drugs targeting insulin resistance or lipids, and drugs with anti-inflammatory or antioxidant properties. Dulaglutide and the combination of tofogliflozin with pioglitazone are also recommended. Based on the latest research, the authors suggest revising the therapeutic recommendations for NAFLD patients.

SELF-CARE AND QUALITY OF LIFE PEOPLE WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES DURING THE COVID-19: CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY

Hema Malini et al.

Summary: Background . Social distancing and emotional stress during the COVID-19 pandemic have affected the self-care management of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. There was a shift in self-care management during the COVID-19 that will impact the quality of life of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-care management and quality of life of T2DM patients in the community health center during the lockdown. Methods . This research was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional study approach. The sampling technique used a non-probability sampling with total sampling of 89 respondents. The instruments used in this study were WHO Quality of Life-BREF and Summary of Diabetes Self Care Activities. Findings The results showed a significant relationship between self-care management and the quality of life of people with type 2 diabetes (p = 0.000) with moderate strength and a positive direction. Conclusions People with diabetes coped well with their disease management which was supported by family and health professionals. Sustainable health education and motivation for patients and families are important so that the patients always carry out self-care management to improve the quality of life of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.

Summary: Affective temperament was evaluated in obese individuals with T2DM and pre-diabetes, showing that depressive, cyclothymic, and anxious temperaments were positively correlated with glycemic control, while hyperthymic temperament showed a negative correlation. This suggests that affective temperaments may influence glycemic control in obese individuals with carbohydrate disorders.

Summary: The majority of emergency nurses have adequate levels of emotional intelligence, with younger nurses showing better ability to perceive, express, and understand emotional states than older ones. Nurses with more years of experience demonstrate better ability to regulate emotions, while those who are overweight or obese express their feelings better but have decreased ability to regulate emotional states as weight increases. Additionally, the quality of sleep of emergency nurses is significantly disrupted, potentially impacting their emotional processing abilities.
