Tatsuki Mizuochi et al.

Summary: This study assessed the real-world efficacy and safety of glecaprevir and pibrentasvir (G/P) treatment in Japanese adolescents with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV). The results showed that G/P treatment was highly efficacious and well tolerated, with all patients achieving sustained virologic response at 12 weeks after treatment completion.

Recommendations of the Polish Group of Experts for HCV for the treatment of hepatitis C in 2023

Krzysztof Tomasiewicz et al.

Summary: The recommendations provide guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection based on the latest knowledge. The main objective of HCV treatment is to eradicate the virus from the body, leading to the cessation or reversal of liver damage. The current guidelines prioritize pangenotypic regimens and offer recommendations for special patient populations, including children, patients with cirrhosis, HIV and HBV co-infection, renal failure, liver failure, lack of response to previous therapies, and patients in the peri-transplant period.

Global change in hepatitis C virus prevalence and cascade of care between 2015 and 2020: a modelling study

Sarah Blach et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the burden of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in 2020 and forecast the burden by 2030. Using literature review, Delphi process, and mathematical modelling, it estimated the global prevalence of viraemic HCV infection to be 0.7% in 2020, corresponding to 56.8 million infections. The findings suggest that the current efforts are not on track to achieve the global elimination targets by 2030.

Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C in Young Children Reduces Adverse Outcomes and Is Cost-Effective Compared with Deferring Treatment to Adulthood

Emma Greenaway et al.

Summary: Treating young children with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) early is cost-effective, as it can prevent cases of cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver-related deaths. The study developed a state-transition model and conducted a cost-effectiveness analysis comparing treatment at age 6 years vs delaying treatment until age 18 years. Delaying treatment results in an increased lifetime risk of late-stage liver complications, supporting policies that broaden HCV treatment access to young children.
