Clinical presentation, genetic etiology and outcome associated with fetal cardiomyopathy: comparison of two eras

T. Trakmulkichkarn et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the rate and clinical outcome of genetic diagnosis in cases of fetal cardiomyopathy. The results showed that a higher proportion of cases in the recent era had a confirmed or strongly suspected genetic etiology. However, modern perinatal management strategies may not significantly impact neonatal survival in cases of fetal cardiomyopathy.

Reference ranges for fetal cardiac, ventricular and atrial relative size, sphericity, ventricular dominance, wall asymmetry and relative wall thickness from 18 to 41 gestational weeks

L. Garcia-Otero et al.

Summary: The study successfully constructed nomograms for fetal cardiac, ventricular, and atrial relative size and geometry parameters from 18 to 41 weeks' gestation using a low-risk population of singleton pregnancies. The results showed regular patterns of changes in these parameters throughout pregnancy.

Genetics and Clinical Features of Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy in the Fetal Population

Summary: Our data demonstrate that fetal NCCM is a unique entity. Compared with pediatric and adult NCCM, fetal NCCM is more prone to biventricle involvement, more likely to be complicated with congenital heart defects, and has a distinct genetic spectrum.

Overview of Cardiomyopathies in Childhood

Anika Rath et al.

Summary: Pediatric cardiomyopathies are rare heart disorders with mechanical and electrical abnormalities. Dilated cardiomyopathies are the most common type, followed by hypertrophic cardiomyopathies, left ventricular non-compaction, and restrictive phenotypes. The natural history is influenced by the type of cardiomyopathy and its underlying causes.
