Biomarkers and Predictive Factors for Treatment Response to Tumor Necrosis Factor- ff Inhibitors in Patients with Psoriasis

Teppei Hagino et al.

Summary: This retrospective and observational study aimed to identify laboratory indicators reflecting the treatment response to tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-ff inhibitors in patients with psoriasis. The results showed that C-reactive protein (CRP), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, and monocyte to lymphocyte ratio decreased along with psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) at weeks 12 and 52 of treatment. The reduction of CRP and PLR correlated with the reduction of PASI at week 52. Linear multivariate regression analysis revealed that the presence of scalp lesions was associated with a high reduction of PASI at week 52 in the adalimumab (ADA) subgroup.

Blood Cell Biomarkers of Inflammation and Cytokine Levels as Predictors of Response to Biologics in Patients with Psoriasis

Clara Sophie Bramsen Andersen et al.

Summary: This study examined the usefulness of various inflammation biomarkers in personalizing biologic treatment for psoriasis patients. It was found that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels could serve as predictive biomarkers for treatment response to TNF-alpha inhibitor therapy. The study also measured other biomarkers such as TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, IFN-alpha, IL-17A, IL-6, soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R), and soluble IL-6 signal transducer (sIL-6ST) in different patient groups.

Correlation between Inflammatory Systemic Biomarkers and Surgical Trauma in Elderly Patients with Hip Fractures

Flaviu Moldovan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the correlation between blood-count-derived biomarkers such as NLR, PLR, MLR, and SII and the level of aggression sustained by elderly patients during surgical procedures for hip fractures. A retrospective cohort study included 129 patients aged over 70 diagnosed with acute hip fractures. The results showed significant differences in various parameters between patients with different fracture locations and treatments. The postoperative NLR, PLR, SII, and duration of surgery were found to be independently related to the invasiveness of the procedures.

The Combination of IL-6, PLR and Nail Psoriasis : Screen for the Early Diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis

Xiaoyang Liu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics, cytokines, and inflammation index between plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) to explore their values in the early diagnosis of PsA. The results showed that elevated serum IL-6 levels, as well as the value of platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), were significantly higher in patients with PsA and early PsA compared to those with plaque psoriasis. Nail psoriasis, elevated serum IL-6, and PLR were identified as independent risk factors for PsA. The combination of elevated serum IL-6, PLR, and nail psoriasis can help predict and screen the early stage of PsA.

Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index Predicts Prolonged Mechanical Ventilation and Intensive Care Unit Stay After off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

I. Made Adi Parmana et al.

Summary: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in developing countries. Off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) offers advantages in revascularization, but still causes a significant systemic inflammatory response. This study evaluates the prognostic values of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in predicting perioperative outcomes in patients who underwent OPCAB surgery.

Efficacy, safety, and drug survival of IL-23, IL-17, and TNF-alpha inhibitors for psoriasis treatment: a retrospective study

Paolo Dapavo et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy, safety, and drug survival of anti TNF-alpha, anti-IL-17, and anti-IL-23 in psoriasis treatment. Ixekizumab showed superior efficacy in terms of PASI90 and PASI100, but did not have higher drug survival as expected. Secukinumab was the only drug with higher drug survival among bio-naive patients.

Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio as a potential marker for differential diagnosis between spinal tuberculosis and pyogenic spinal infection

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) may serve as a valuable indicator for distinguishing spinal tuberculosis from pyogenic spinal infection. This study found that NLR levels were significantly lower in spinal tuberculosis patients compared to pyogenic spinal infection patients. The NLR also exhibited higher diagnostic ability compared to other hematological indicators.

Diagnostic role of simple indices in HCV-related liver cirrhosis outcomes: a prospective cross-sectional study

Marwa Ibrahim Metawea et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of several ratios and scores in liver cirrhosis, and found their cut-off values. The indices correlated with the severity of liver cirrhosis and were useful in predicting specific outcomes such as spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. The study also highlighted the superiority of ABR over ALBI in differentiating acute-on-chronic liver failure from decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, platelet to lymphocyte ratio, and other hematological parameters in psoriasis patients

Wen-Ming Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that patients with psoriasis had higher total white blood cell, neutrophil, and platelet counts, as well as NLR and PLR, but lower hemoglobin levels, lymphocyte, and red blood cell counts compared to healthy controls. Elevated NLR and PLR were associated with psoriasis, but varied between subtypes.
