Molecular Biomarkers in Perthes Disease: A Review

Vesna Spasovski et al.

Summary: This study aimed to summarize the literature findings on the biological factors relevant to the pathogenesis of Perthes disease, their diagnostic and clinical significance, and their therapeutic potential. It revealed that factors related to vascular involvement and inflammatory molecules contribute to impaired bone remodeling. Moreover, candidate genes relevant to the active phase of the disease have been suggested as potential biological therapeutic targets. Overall, the identification of molecular biomarkers underlying the pathophysiology of Perthes disease can improve early diagnosis, precise follow-ups, and treatment.

Association of MTHFR rs1801133 and homocysteine with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease in Mexican patients

Jose Guillermo Buendia-Pazaran et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between genetic variants of COL1A1, COL2A1, MTHFR, CBS, and PT genes and Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD). The results showed no association between MTHFR, CBS, PT, COL1A1, and COL2A1 genetic variants and LCPD. However, when adjusting for Hcy values of the MTHFR C677T polymorphism, the C/C genotypes were found to be associated with susceptibility to LCPD.

PlA2 Polymorphism of Platelet Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa and C677T Polymorphism of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR), but Not Factor V Leiden and Prothrombin G20210A Polymorphisms, Are Associated with More Severe Forms of Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease

Maria Dolores Garcia-Alfaro et al.

Summary: A cohort study found a possible association between common polymorphic variants related to thrombophilia and the risk and severity of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. Specific genetic variants may lead to more severe forms of the disease.
