Early detection of microcomedones induced by cocoa butter using reflectance confocal microscopy

Ji Hwoon Baek et al.

Summary: This study used reflectance confocal microscopy to evaluate the impact of cocoa butter on skin comedones. The results showed that the number of microcomedones induced by cocoa butter was significantly higher than at the non-applied site within two weeks, and the diameter changes of microcomedones caused by cocoa butter were also significantly larger at 2 and 4 weeks.

Dermoscopy, confocal microscopy and optical coherence tomography features of main inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases: A systematic review

Stefania Guida et al.

Summary: Non-invasive skin imaging techniques such as dermoscopy, RCM, and OCT show promising results in correlating with histopathologic features of main inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases. Different disease groups display specific dermoscopic and imaging characteristics that correspond to histopathologic findings, providing valuable insights for non-invasive diagnostic methods.

Dermoscopy, Reflectance Confocal Microscopy and Optical Coherence Tomography Features of Acne: A Systematic Review

Antonio Alma et al.

Summary: This review discusses the current applications of noninvasive imaging techniques, such as dermoscopy, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), and optical coherence tomography (OCT), in the assessment and management of acne vulgaris. The limited availability of large studies on the topic is a main drawback. However, these imaging techniques have the potential to improve acne classification, treatment monitoring, and understanding of the disease's pathophysiology.

Feasibility of Reflectance Confocal Microscopy Monitoring in Oily, Acne-Prone Facial Skin Treated with a Topical Combination of Alpha and Beta-Hydroxy Acids, Anti-Inflammatory Molecules, and Herculane Thermal Water: A Blinded, One-Month Study

Mihai Lupu et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of a topical combination product for oily, acne-prone skin using reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM). The results showed that RCM imaging could effectively evaluate the improvement in skin condition after treatment. The findings suggest that RCM is a suitable non-invasive technique for evaluating acne treatments.

A plea for standardization of confocal microscopy and optical coherence tomography parameters to evaluate physiological and para-physiological skin conditions in cosmetic science

Silvana Ciardo et al.

Summary: This study proposes a standardized methodology and defined parameters for objective skin assessments in the cosmetically sensitive cheekbone area of the face, utilizing OCT and RCM features. Through a rigorous validation process, excellent inter-rater reliability was achieved, indicating high reproducibility for semi-quantitative and qualitative parameters. The results may serve as a starting point for standardized application of RCM and OCT in dermo-cosmetic research and practice.
