Melatonin or Ramelteon for Delirium Prevention in the Intensive Care Unit: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Giuseppe Aiello et al.

Summary: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we found that melatonin and ramelteon do not seem to reduce delirium incidence in ICU patients, although there was a potential trend towards reducing the duration of mechanical ventilation. More studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Impact of Subsyndromal Delirium Occurrence and Its Trajectory during ICU Stay

Rodrigo B. Serafim et al.

Summary: Despite recent advances in the field, the association between subsyndromal delirium (SSD) in the ICU and poor outcomes is not entirely clear. Our findings support the association of SSD with increased ICU length of stay (LOS), but not with ICU mortality. Monitoring the trajectory of SSD early at ICU admission can help to identify patients with increased risk of conversion from SSD to delirium or coma.

Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) for the early detection of dementia across a variety of healthcare settings

Jennifer K. Harrison et al.

Summary: The Informant Questionnaire for Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) is a structured interview used to assess possible dementia. Studies have shown that IQCODE is sensitive in identifying individuals who may develop dementia in the future but lacks specificity. The research highlights challenges in delayed verification dementia research and emphasizes the need for explicit protocols to address potential biases in future studies.
