On multiscale tension-compression asymmetry in skeletal muscle

Markus Boel et al.

Summary: This study reports for the first time on the tension-compression asymmetry (TCA) of skeletal muscle at different length scales, comparing the characteristics between muscle tissue and fibres. The results show that the extracellular matrix plays a significant role in amplifying TCA and balancing volume changes of muscle fibres during deformation.

Computational and experimental comparison on the effects of flow-induced compression on the permeability of collagen gels

Christopher S. Vidmar et al.

Summary: Collagen is widely used in tissue engineering due to its high biocompatibility and porous nature. This study investigates the change in permeability of collagen gels undergoing flow-induced compression and compares the results with a finite element model. The findings suggest that the initial permeability of collagen gels decreases with increasing concentration, but gels with lower initial concentration compress to a greater degree, resulting in smaller final permeabilities.
