Biosynthesis of fuel-grade ethanol from cellobiose by a cell-factory of non-GMO Saccharomyces cerevisiae/starch-gel-cellulase

Archontoula Kalogeropoulou et al.

Summary: The study focuses on fermenting cellobiose to ethanol using a non-GMO Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell-factory, achieving high conversion rates in a one-step bioconversion process. The findings suggest the efficiency of the cell-factory in producing ethanol and present a new concept for bio-ethanol production.

Linear Paired Electrolysis-Realising 200 % Current Efficiency for Stoichiometric Transformations-The Electrochemical Bromination of Alkenes

Julia Strehl et al.

Summary: The generation of bromine through bromide oxidation and its subsequent use in bromination reactions during electrolysis achieved high current efficiencies of up to 200%. In addition, diiodination of cyclohexene and electrophilic aromatic bromination of electron-rich arenes were also achieved with current efficiencies of 168%.

Organic Electrochemistry: Expanding the Scope of Paired Reactions

Tiandi Wu et al.

Summary: Paired electrochemical reactions allow for optimization of atom and energy economy of oxidation and reduction reactions by adjusting the potentials at both electrodes, with substrate matching not being necessary. Any oxidation reaction can theoretically be paired with any reduction reaction.

Reviving electrocatalytic reductive amination: a sustainable route from biogenic levulinic acid to 1,5-dimethyl-2-pyrrolidone

Sonja D. Murtz et al.

Summary: The electrocatalytic reductive amination provides a green pathway for the synthesis of N-containing chemicals using water as a hydrogen source and mild reaction conditions. Systematic studies on suitable reaction conditions and application to biogenic substrates are rare, but the authors present a successful transformation of levulinic acid to 1,5-dimethyl-2-pyrrolidone. By optimizing various factors including electrode material, substrate concentration, current density, solvent, electrolyte, and pH value, the authors achieved a high yield of the desired product and provided a methodology for the benign synthesis of N-containing species.
