Recent developments in electrode materials for dual-ion batteries: Potential alternatives to conventional batteries

Heng-guo Wang et al.

Summary: Lithium-ion batteries have been successful in consumer electronics and energy vehicles, but the shortage of lithium and cobalt resources, as well as the need for better performance and safety, have led to the development of more efficient battery systems. Dual-ion batteries, with their environmental friendliness, low cost, excellent safety, high work voltage, and high energy density, offer an alternative to conventional batteries. However, they face challenges such as limited capacity and shorter cycle life. Various strategies have been adopted to overcome these challenges and promising results have been reported.

N-Substituted Carbazole Derivate Salts as Stable Organic Electrodes for Anion Insertion

Roberto Russo et al.

Summary: This study proposes the design, synthesis, and electrochemical characterization of a set of insoluble molecular carbazole derivatives for electrochemical energy storage. Two strategies were implemented to prevent the dissolution of the active material in the organic carbonate-based liquid electrolyte solvent. The synthesized compounds exhibit reversible anion intercalation and improved cycling stability, making them suitable for application as metal-free positive electrodes in electrochemical energy storage systems.

Insights into the Solubility of Poly(vinylphenothiazine) in Carbonate-Based Battery Electrolytes

Verena Perner et al.

Summary: This study proposes a different strategy to improve the performance of organic polymer-based batteries by optimizing the battery electrolyte without chemical modification of the active material. It is found that changing the constituents of the electrolyte significantly influences the interactions between the electrolyte molecules and the redox polymer.
