Comparative Study on Wear Behaviors of Monolayer and Heterogeneous Multilayer Ta Coatings in Atmospheric and SBF Environments

Yun Yue et al.

Summary: Monolayer Ta and multilayer Ti/Zr/Ta and Zr/Ti/Ta coatings were prepared by magnetron sputtering to improve surface friction and wear properties in different environments. The effects of preparation parameters and coating structure on performance were investigated through various microscopy techniques and nano scratch testing. The results showed that the monolayer Ta coating exhibited the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate, attributed to its excellent adhesion, unique structure, and solid lubrication. Moreover, the coatings showed different wear resistance in simulated body fluid (SBF) and atmospheric environments.

Summary: The impact of surface treatments including sandblasting, anodic oxidation, and anodic oxidation after sandblasting on the surface structure and properties of titanium alloys was investigated. The surface treatments had significant effects on the surface roughness, contact angle, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the titanium alloys. Proper surface treatments can improve the performance of titanium alloys to some extent.

Improving the adhesive, mechanical, tribological properties and corrosion resistance of reactive sputtered tantalum oxide coating on Ti6Al4V alloy via introducing multiple interlayers

Ziyu Ding et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of the introduced TamOn-TiO2/TiO2/Ti multi-interlayer on the microstructure, adhesive, mechanical, and anti-corrosion properties of reactive sputtered tantalum oxide coatings. The inserted multiple interlayers reduce the residual stress in the coating, couple the mechanical performance between the layer and the substrate, and block the continuous growth of penetrating defects in a film with columnar structure. The results provide a workable approach for improving the properties of the tantalum oxide coating on Ti6Al4V alloy for medical applications.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of magnetic fluorescence hybrid nanoparticles for simultaneous detection and removal of Cu(II) ions and RhB dye degradation. The nanoparticles showed selective adsorption of Cu(II) ions and efficient degradation of RhB under UV light. The Langmuir isotherm model fit the adsorption data well, and the adsorption process was found to be endothermic, favorable, and spontaneous.

Influence of Zr content on immersion and electrochemical corrosion behavior of as-cast TiZr alloys

Suli Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of Zr content on the immersion and electrochemical corrosion behavior of Zr-containing Ti-based alloys (TiZr). It reveals that a high amount of Zr can alleviate corrosion, but pitting corrosion occurs when the Zr content reaches 40 Wt.%. Additionally, the corrosion resistance of TiZr alloys improves with increasing Zr content.

Microstructure and properties of monolayer, bilayer and multilayer Ta2O5-based coatings on biomedical Ti-6Al-4V alloy by magnetron sputtering

Zeliang Ding et al.

Summary: In recent years, tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) ceramic coating has been widely studied for modification of implants due to its excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. The Ta2O5/Ta2O5-Ti/Ti coating exhibited superior adhesion strength, mechanical properties, and wear resistance compared to Ta2O5 and Ta2O5/Ti coatings. The experimental results suggest that these Ta2O5-based coatings can provide excellent corrosion protection for Ti-6Al-4V alloy, with the Ta2O5 monolayer showing the best corrosion resistance due to its thick out-layer Ta2O5 film.

Summary: Ta coatings were prepared on medical titanium alloy to improve wear resistance, and their phase structure and properties were studied under different preparation conditions. Multi-layer coatings showed a non-columnar feature, while pure phase columnar crystals were found in monolayer coatings. Among the coatings, the one prepared under direct current bias voltage exhibited the best adhesion and wear resistance.
