Abnormal Eu3+ → Eu2+ Reduction in Ca9-xMnxEu(PO4)7 Phosphors: Structure and Luminescent Properties

Elena V. V. Sipina et al.

Summary: beta-Ca-3(PO4)(2)-type phosphors Ca9-xMnxEu(PO4)(7) were synthesized and characterized. The abnormal reduction of Eu3+ to Eu2+ in air was observed and confirmed by PL spectra study and XPS. The redistribution of Eu2+/Eu3+ ions among crystal sites and the abnormal quenching of Eu3+ emission were discussed in detail.

Challenges in porosity characterization of thin films: Cross-evaluation of different techniques

Mikhail R. Baklanov et al.

Summary: The review article provides an overview of important techniques for evaluating the porosity of thin films. These methods include ellipsometric porosimetry (EP), positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS/PALS), and grazing incidence small-angle x-ray scattering (GISAXS). The article highlights the challenges and limitations of each method and demonstrates their unique insights into pore structure. The cross-evaluation of different methods enhances understanding of complex pore structures and emphasizes the importance of appropriate data modeling and interpretation.

A Facile Method for the Fabrication of Luminescent Eu3+-Doped SiO2 Nanowires

Fei Gao et al.

Summary: Europium trivalent ion (Eu3+)-doped silica nanowires were prepared and the positioning of Eu3+ in the silicon dioxide nanowire matrix was investigated. The results indicate that Eu3+ was successfully doped into amorphous silica and exhibited high photoluminescent emission in the silica matrix.

Method to Measure the Degree of Reduction of Eu3+ to Eu2+: How Anion and Cation Vacancies Influence the Degree of Reduction

Przemyslaw J. Deren et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the reduction degree of Eu3+ to Eu2+ and quantum efficiency of Eu2+ emission, revealing the impact of defects such as calcium and oxygen vacancies on the reduction process. By studying samples synthesized in sol-gel and solid-state, and identifying defects using IR measurements, a new method based on magnetic measurements is proposed.
