Microstructural evolution and dynamic recrystallization of a nickel-based superalloy PM EP962NP during hot deformation at 1150 °C

Bing Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructural evolution and dynamic recrystallization mechanism of a nickel-based superalloy PM EP962NP during isothermal compression at 1150 degrees C under different strain rates and strains. The results show that continuous dynamic recrystallization occurs when the strain exceeds 0.36. A processing window with high microstructure stability, including the evolution of DRX, y grains, and y' precipitates, is determined to be hot compression at 1150 degrees C with a strain rate of 0.001 s-1 and strains ranging from 0.69 to 1.20. In addition, the y' precipitates exhibit inhomogeneous sizes due to the interaction between dissolution and precipitation, with micron-scale blocky primary y' and nano-scale spherical secondary y'. Moreover, the abundant microstructural information related to the strain rates and strains can provide a reference for obtaining gradient microstructures through thermo-mechanical processes.

Characterization of microstructures and hot-compressive behavior of GH4169 superalloy by kinetics analysis and simulation

Peihao Geng et al.

Summary: The study revealed that dynamic recrystallization (DRX) behavior was promoted at higher temperatures and lower strain rates, and no 8 phase existed at or above 1333 K deformation temperature. A significant yield drop occurred within the temperature range varying from 1273 K to 1333 K due to the dissolution of the 8 phase and enhanced mobility of defects.

Size effect on the high strain rate micro/meso-tensile behaviors of pure titanium foil

Chengxi Zhu et al.

Summary: The study reveals significant differences in microstructure evolution and fracture mechanism between quasi-static and dynamic tensile tests. Additionally, the size effect on flow stress of pure titanium foil shows distinct variations between quasi-static and dynamic tensile tests, which can be well explained by the proposed twinning refinement physics model. Furthermore, a modified Johnson-Cook model considering the effects of grain size and strain rate accurately predicts the flow stress of pure titanium foil, demonstrating good agreement with experimental results.

Flow characteristics and microstructural evolution in pulsed current assisted micro-scaled compression of stainless steel sheet

M. Du et al.

Summary: Electrically assisted microforming has widespread benefits for high-performance microproducts. This research explores the coupled effect of microstructural size and pulsed current on flow characteristics of 304 stainless steel sheets. The findings suggest that strain hardening rate and deformation stress decrease during EA deformation, especially when current density exceeds 57.16 A/mm². Additionally, the impact of grain size on micro-scaled compression weakens with higher current density and plastic strain.
