The evolution behavior and constitution characteristics of interfacial oxides in the hot-rolled stainless steel clad plate

Zengmeng Lin et al.

Summary: The morphologies, compositions and structures of interface oxides in 316 L/Q235 stainless steel clad plate were investigated under different vacuum degrees (105, 400, 10 and 10-2 Pa). As the vacuum degree increases, the oxides change from continuous coarse nodules to refined rod particles, and the constitution changes from Cr2O3, MnCr2O4 and SiO2 to amorphous Mn2SiO4. Interestingly, the shear fracture position shifts from the interface to the decarburized layer with increasing vacuum degree. Overall, dispersed nanoscale amorphous Mn2SiO4 play a significant role in strengthening and toughening the interface of hot-rolled stainless steel clad plates.

Improving the Corrosion Resistance of AISI 316L Steel for Semiconductor Piping by Controlled Delta-Ferrite Content

Young Woo Seo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the changes in delta-ferrite content due to preheating in AISI 316L stainless steel and determined the reasons for such changes. The results showed that preheating can control the delta-ferrite content and that higher content leads to weaker corrosion resistance.

Summary: This study prepared stainless steel composites through hot compression, and found that increasing carbon content widened the carburized zone, increased the carbides at grain boundaries and improved the tensile strength and yield strength of the material, while reducing the uniform elongation due to the formation of local microcracks.

Microstructure and coordination mechanism of interface of stainless steel/carbon steel cladding plate prepared by vacuum diffusion bonding

Qi Li et al.

Summary: This study focused on the vacuum diffusion bonding (VDB)-prepared 304 austenite stainless steel (SS)/Q235 carbon steel (CS) clad plates, with a particular investigation into the metallurgically bonded interfaces that exhibit good mechanical properties. Microstructures of the interfaces were extensively studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), revealing the presence of annealing twins and lath martensite precipitates at the interface, contributing to the high strength and plasticity. Additionally, dislocation distribution and Burgers vector at the ferrite-austenite interfaces were analyzed, showing different dislocation reactions during deformation and a unique orientation relationship (OR) between ferrite and austenite in SS/CS clad plates prepared via VDB technology.

Evaluation and Prediction of Formation of Heat-Affected Zone and Mechanical Properties According to Welding Method of STS 316L/A516-70N Clad Plates

Cheolhong Hwang et al.

Summary: Two welding methods, FCAW + FCAW and FCAW + GTAW, were compared for their effectiveness in STS 316L/A516-70N clad stainless steel. It was found that the FCAW + GTAW method has a larger heat input, resulting in a larger heat-affected zone and greater angular deformation compared to the FCAW + FCAW method. Computational simulation results were highly accurate and consistent with actual specimens. The FCAW + FCAW welding method produced specimens with higher hardness values, while the FCAW + GTAW welding method resulted in a desirable hardness profile.
