Condensation and hydrophobicity of the surface hydroxyl groups between organosilane modified water glass and microsilica

Jinpeng Li et al.

Summary: In this study, MPS was added to water glass to improve the bonding strength of the two-component inorganic binder system under wet conditions. The effect of MPS on the storage stability of the sand core was studied, and the mechanisms of condensation and hydrophobicity of water glass-microsilica were discussed. The results showed that MPS promoted the dehydration condensation between water glass and microsilica, increasing the bonding strength and preventing water damage.

Effect of basalt fiber on fracture properties and drying shrinkage of alkali-activated slag with different silicate modulus

Ruizhe Si et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of basalt fiber on the microstructure, compressive strength, fracture properties, and drying shrinkage of alkali-activated slag (AAS) with varying silicate modulus (Ms) of activators. The results showed that the corrosion behavior of basalt fiber differed in the alkaline solution depending on the Ms of the activator. The mechanical and fracture properties can be effectively improved when the Ms of AAS was above 1, as the tight bonding between the basalt fiber and the AAS matrix enhanced the bridging effect of the basalt fiber.

Effect of colloidal silicon dioxide and moisture on powder flow properties: Predicting in-process performance using image-based analysis

David Blanco et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of colloidal silicon dioxide on the powder flow properties of poor-flowing excipient lactose 200 M. It was found that a more effective range of colloidal silicon dioxide from 0.10 to 0.50% w/w significantly improved powder flow performance. The importance of moisture content on powder flow properties was also highlighted in the study.

Powder flow behavior governed by the surface properties of glass beads

Shirin Enferad et al.

Summary: Controlling the surface properties of particles can affect the rheology of powders and their sensitivity to surrounding environmental conditions. Factors such as flowability, compressibility, and electrostatic charges need to be considered when handling large quantities of powders. The study found that hydrophobic surface treatment can reduce the sensitivity of glass beads to humidity, but may decrease their flowability at low shear rates.
