Enhanced strength-plasticity matching of lamellar 1 GPa-grade dual-phase steels via cyclic intercritical quenching

Chao Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, a cyclic intercritical quenching process was proposed to improve the mechanical properties of dual-phase steel. The microstructural evolution and the mechanism of enhancing strength-plasticity matching were investigated. The experimental results showed that the cyclic intercritical quenching procedure produced a fine and evenly distributed lamellar structure, leading to significant improvements in uniform elongation, total elongation, and the product of strength and uniform elongation. The slight decrease in strength was attributed to the fine lamellar microstructure, while the high plasticity was due to the good deformation compatibility between lamellar ferrite and lamellar martensite.

Structure-property relationship in vanadium micro-alloyed TRIP steel subjected to the isothermal bainite transformation process

Jun Lu et al.

Summary: The structure-property relationship in vanadium micro-alloyed TRIP steel was investigated, with particular focus on austenite transformation, precipitation behavior, and mechanical performance. The microstructural evolution of the steel during processing was studied using various techniques, and its influence on mechanical properties was discussed. The TRIP steel exhibited a complex microstructure including intercritical ferrite, bainitic ferrite, retained austenite, and martensite. The steel's mechanical performance was enhanced by the refining effect of nanoscale vanadium carbide precipitates, which inhibited phase boundary migration and promoted bainite transformation.

Enhanced strength and ductility of the low-carbon steel with heterogeneous lamellar dual-phase structure produced by cyclic intercritical rolling

Bo Gao et al.

Summary: To enhance the combination of strength and ductility, a full martensitic steel was processed by cyclic intercritical rolling to produce a novel HLSDP structure. The HLSDP steel exhibited simultaneously improved strength and ductility. The deformation process led to strain partitioning due to the incompatibility between the soft zone (ferrite) and hard zone (martensite), and micro digital image correlation analysis revealed the evolution of strain field during deformation.

Effect of ausforming on the bainitic transformation and microstructure in medium carbon V-N micro-alloyed steel

Xiaojie Zhao et al.

Summary: Ausforming at 900 degrees C with 30% reduction in V and N micro-alloyed steel can induce VN precipitation, which has low lattice misfit with bainitic ferrite. Further ausforming at 300 degrees C with different strains shortens the incubation period and accelerates bainitic transformation by creating more nucleation points and distortion-energy storage. After low temperature ausforming, a competition between accelerating nucleation and suppressing growth occurs, with smaller strains resulting in a higher degree of bainitic transformation.

Morphological and crystallographic features of granular and lath-like bainite in a low carbon microalloyed steel

David De-Castro et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of two different bainite morphologies in a low carbon microalloyed steel through different heat treatments. Advanced crystallographic characterization and quantitative metallography techniques were employed to analyze the differences in size and shape of the M/A constituents. The results show that the variations in crystallography and morphology can be explained by the different driving forces and amounts of bainitic ferrite formed at different temperature ranges.

Developing 1000 MPa grade LCLA steels through continuous cooling: Effects of Cr and cooling rate on bainitic and martensitic transformations

Qincheng Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Cr addition and cooling rate on bainitic and martensitic transformations in 1000 MPa grade low carbon low alloy steels. The formation mechanism of C-rich martensite (CRM) is also discussed. CRM is found to be closely related to the high concentration of C enrichment and is mainly distributed near the prior austenite grain boundaries.

Effect of Bainitic Isothermal Treatment on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a CMnSiAl TRIP Steel

Alexis Guzman et al.

Summary: The effect of partial substitution of Si by Al in TRIP-assisted CMnSiAl steels was investigated. The steel was processed through various heat treatments to obtain different microstructures. The TRIP effect resulted in a transformation of retained austenite during tensile tests, leading to improved elongation. Furthermore, the partial substitution of Si by Al decreased the yield strength and increased the total elongation of the steel.

Effect of ultra-fast heating on microstructure and mechanical properties of cold-rolled low-carbon low-alloy Q&P steels with different austenitizing temperature

Xiaodong Tan et al.

Summary: In this study, we performed ultra-fast heating quenching and partitioning processes on a cold-rolled low-carbon low-alloy steel, and analyzed the effect of different heating rates on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties. Results show that ultra-fast heating can improve the structure refinement, strength, and ductility of the sample. Additionally, the morphology of retained austenite and strain partition also have an impact on the mechanical properties of the material.

Effect of introduced vanadium carbide at the bay region on bainite transformation, microstructure and mechanical properties of high-carbon and high-silicon steel

Dongyun Sun et al.

Summary: The introduction of fine VC precipitation during bay treatment notably accelerates the initial bainite transformation by reducing the incubation period by 91%. Decrease in activation energy for bainite nucleation at vanadium carbide/austenite interfaces and generation of preferred nucleation sites lead to a favorable acceleration of bainitic formation kinetics.
