High strength and high electrical conductivity Cu composites reinforced by SiO2 aerogel particles

Sujian Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of reinforcement phase SiO2 aerogel particles were added into the Cu matrix to achieve their uniform distribution. The composites showed excellent electrical conductivity and high strength, attributed to the unique distribution of silica aerogel particles. The larger particles were distributed on the grain boundary, while the smaller particles were distributed within the grain, effectively refining the grain.

Densification behavior, mechanical and electrical properties of in-situ TiB2p/Cu composite powder via vacuum hot pressing

Hao Shi et al.

Summary: The spherical TiB2p/Cu composite powder was prepared using in-situ reaction coupled with the gas atomization method, followed by the preparation of bulk TiB2p/Cu composites with diffusely distributed sub-micron TiB2p by vacuum hot pressing (VHP). The densification behavior of the in-situ TiB2p/Cu composite powder compacts during sintering was investigated, revealing that the presence of TiB2p inhibits densification. The sintered TiB2p/Cu composite exhibits an ultimate tensile strength of 400 MPa, conductivity of 89.7% IACS, and relative density of 99.7%, and the reasons for its high strength and conductivity are discussed. This work is expected to provide a technically viable solution for the preparation of high-performance TiB2p/Cu composite by VHP with in-situ composite powder.

Copper matrix composite with bimodal microstructures fabricated by liquid nitrogen temperature rolling

Yihui Jiang et al.

Summary: Liquid nitrogen temperature (LNT) rolling at a high strain rate was used to fabricate in-situ TiB2/Cu composites with bimodal microstructures. The composites showed reinforcement-rich regions consisting of in-situ formed TiB2 particles and nano-Cu grains, while reinforcement-poor regions mainly composed of heavily deformed ultrafine Cu grains. Compared to composites processed by normal rolling, LNT-rolled composites exhibited improved overall performance with high ultimate tensile strength, elongation, electrical conductivity, and thermal stability, making them suitable for electrical and electronic device applications.
