Regulating Morphology and Composition of Laser-Induced Periodic Structures on Titanium Films with Femtosecond Laser Wavelength and Ambient Environment

Kirill Bronnikov et al.

Summary: Research attention has recently focused on highly uniform thermochemical laser-induced periodic surface structures (TLIPSS) due to their practical applicability in fabricating periodic surface morphologies important for surface functionalization, diffraction optics, and sensors. By using different laser processing wavelengths and ambient environments, control of TLIPSS period and nanoscale morphology of the formed protrusions can be achieved.

A superhydrophobic surface with a synergistic abrasion-corrosion resistance effect prepared by femtosecond laser treatment on an FeMnSiCrNiNb shape memory alloy coating

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: A superhydrophobic surface with synergistic abrasion-corrosion resistance has been constructed using femtosecond laser treatment and surface spraying technology. The anti-corrosion ability of the surface has been studied in different corrosive environments. The micro-nano structure of the surface, which forms air valleys, significantly impedes the infiltration of corrosive ions and enhances the surface's superhydrophobicity and durability.

Laser Surface Modification of Powder Metallurgy-Processed Ti-Graphite Composite Which Can Enhance Cells' Osteo-Differentiation

Peter Sugar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the surface functionalization of a new type of Ti-graphite composite using laser micromachining. Results showed that the surface profile with positive kurtosis, platykurtic distribution curve, and higher peaks spacing displayed better bioactivity compared to the surface profile with negative kurtosis coefficient, leptokurtic distribution curve, and lower peaks spacing.

The roles of oxygen content on microstructural transformation, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Ti-Nb-based biomedical alloys with different β stabilities

Junshuai Wang et al.

Summary: Oxygen content plays a significant role in the performance of Ti-Nb based alloys, affecting the balance between strength and ductility through controlling oxygen and Nb content. By doping a certain amount of oxygen, the alloy can achieve simultaneous improvement in strength and ductility.
