Selective Extraction of Cobalt and Copper From Cobalt-Rich Copper Sulfide Ores

Weijiao Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, an activation roasting followed by sulfuric acid leaching process was proposed for efficient leaching of cobalt and copper from cobalt-rich copper sulfide ores. The feasibility of the process was verified through thermodynamic calculation and experiments, achieving extraction rates of 86.2% for cobalt and 95.9% for copper under optimal conditions. The phase transformation of main minerals during activation roasting was explored, and industrial production study and economic accounting confirmed the industrial feasibility of the process.

Ce/Cr and Ce/Co modified ferrite catalysts for high temperature water-gas shift reaction at elevated pressures

Devaiah Damma et al.

Summary: FeCeCoOx ferrite exhibited the best HT-WGS activity among the Ce and Cr/Co co-doped iron oxide, showing stable performance and suppression of coke formation during the reaction. Co-doping of Cr or Co into the iron oxide lattice enhanced the stability of the active magnetite phase, resulting in a high fraction of nanoparticles in the catalysts. The surface structure of the ternary spinel ferrites remained unchanged even after the reaction, contributing to the stable activity of the catalysts.

Geometallurgical Characterisation with Portable FTIR: Application to Sediment-Hosted Cu-Co Ores

Quentin Dehaine et al.

Summary: Cobalt mine production in the Democratic Republic of Congo is primarily sourced from sediment-hosted copper deposits. Understanding the variation in ore mineralogy and oxidation state is crucial for efficient resource management and reducing environmental impact. This study investigates the use of portable FTIR spectroscopy to measure mineralogy in drill core samples, allowing for classification of the ore into different geometallurgical types. This classification supports the selection of appropriate processing methods and can impact overall process performance.

Clean Utilization of Limonite Ore by Suspension Magnetization Roasting Technology

Jianping Jin et al.

Summary: This study developed a suspension magnetization roasting technology to recover refractory limonite ore. The optimal roasting conditions were determined, and the transformation of hematite and goethite into magnetite during the roasting process was observed. The magnetism of the roasted products significantly improved, indicating the effectiveness of the magnetization roasting technology.

Geometallurgy of cobalt ores: A review

Quentin Dehaine et al.

Summary: Cobalt is a crucial transition metal with unique physical properties needed for high-tech applications, but its recovery efficiency is generally low due to the variability of cobalt ores. Understanding the geometallurgical properties of cobalt ores, such as ore mineralogy, is important in developing extraction processes. Further research is needed for sustainable cobalt sourcing and processing.
