Microstructure evolution and properties of laser cladding Nb containing eutectic high entropy alloys

Effect of Al/Ti ratio on the microstructure, texture and incipient plasticity of (CoNiCr0.5)95AlxTiy high entropy alloys

Investigated and discussed the corresponding microstructure, mechanical property, and incipient plasticity. Results showed the reduction of average GND, increase in ductility, decrease in strength, and the presence of heterogeneous dislocation nucleation triggered by cooperative migration of multiple atoms via vacancies.

Effect of Al on microstructure and mechanical properties of lightweight AlxNb0.5TiV2Zr0.5 refractory high entropy alloys

Summary: AlxNb0.5TiV2Zr0.5 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) refractory high entropy alloys with excellent microstructure and mechanical properties were prepared. The alloys consisted of BCC phase and C14-Laves phase, with the volume fraction of Laves phase increasing and then decreasing slightly with increasing Al content. The density of the alloys decreased and microhardness increased with increasing Al content. The yield strength and compressive strain of the alloys exhibited complex trends at room and elevated temperatures. Increasing temperature resulted in a decrease in strength and the Al0.8 alloy had the highest specific yield strength at different temperatures. There was a strong correlation between mechanical properties and Al content, with Al promoting the formation of the Laves phase.

Abnormally high work hardening ability and excellent comprehensive properties of copper alloys due to multiple twins and precipitates

Summary: The Cu-1.35Ni-1Co-0.55Si alloy with multiple twins and ultra-low interfacial mis-match precipitates was successfully obtained by liquid nitrogen dynamic plastic deformation (DPD) and aging treatment. It exhibits abnormally high work hardening ability, excellent comprehensive properties, and high strength, electrical conductivity, and ductility. The fine multiple twins do not coarsen significantly during peak aging, and the dispersed nano precipitates further enhance its strength. This approach provides a new avenue for developing precipitation-strengthened alloys with excellent comprehensive properties.

Extraordinary creep resistance in a non-equiatomic high-entropy alloy from the optimum solid-solution strengthening and stress-assisted precipitation process

Summary: Improving creep resistance is often achieved by optimizing alloy design to create strong solid-solution strengthening and/or coherent precipitates for dislocation blockage. High-entropy alloys (HEAs), which are single-phase solid-solutions, exhibit creep properties comparable to precipitate-strengthened ferritic alloys. However, many HEAs develop incoherent second phases during long-term annealing, reducing their lifetime and limiting their use at high temperatures. This study demonstrates the exceptional creep resistance of a non-equiatomic Al0.3CoCrFeNi HEA, which has a much lower creep strain rate compared to the Cantor alloy and its subsets. The research reveals that the suppression of B2 precipitate phase during the early stage of creep deformation and the emergence of metastable and coherent L1(2) precipitates significantly contribute to creep strengthening.

Lightweight Ti-Zr-Nb-Al-V refractory high-entropy alloys with superior strength-ductility synergy and corrosion resistance

Summary: In this study, novel lightweight refractory high-entropy alloys (LRHEAs) were fabricated by substituting V for Al. The Ti1.6ZrNbAl0.2V0.2 LRHEA exhibited a high yield strength and moderate tensile ductility, attributed to the synergy between grain refinement and solid solution strengthening induced by V addition. The LRHEA also showed excellent corrosion resistance, making it a promising material for various applications.

Enhanced strength and toughness of high nitrogen stainless bearing steel by controlling interstitial partitioning via V-microalloying

Summary: High-nitrogen stainless bearing steel with ultra-high tensile strength and good toughness was obtained through V-microalloying. V-microalloying reduced the content of interstitial atoms in the matrix and transformed the precipitates, resulting in a coupling strengthening effect. It also controlled interstitial partitioning, effectively refining the microstructure, and enhancing the strength and toughness of the steel.

Effect of Zr on the as-cast microstructure and mechanical properties of lightweight Ti2VNbMoZrx refractory high-entropy alloys

Summary: Refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) have attracted attention for their high-temperature performance, but high density and poor ductility are issues. This study investigated Ti2VNbMoZrx RHEAs and found that Ti2VNbMoZr2 alloy displayed optimal mechanical properties, with high compressive yield strength and plastic strain, as well as excellent high-temperature performance. Solution strengthening model showed that Zr atoms contributed to the high yield strength of Ti2VNbMoZrx RHEAs.

Excellent thermal stability and their origins in γ' precipitation-strengthened medium-entropy alloys

Summary: The outstanding thermal stability of coherent gamma' phases in Ni46Cr23Fe23Al4Ti4 and Ni(46)Cr(23)Co(23)Al(4)Ti(4) medium-entropy alloys at 1073 K was systematically investigated. The coarsening behaviors of coherent gamma' phase in these alloys followed the classical Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner (LSW) model. The morphology evolution and coarsening behavior of gamma' phase were affected by the gamma/gamma' lattice misfit, with lower misfit helping to maintain the spherical morphology and reducing the interfacial energy. Decreasing the misfit and interfacial energy can be effective strategies for developing gamma'-strengthened high/medium-entropy alloys for high-temperature applications.

Heterogeneous structure induced excellent mechanical and wear properties in Co-free FeCrAlNi medium-entropy alloys

Summary: Microstructure design and realization through arc-melting method were used to prepare two novel non-equiatomic Co-free low-cost medium-entropy alloys, Fe30Cr30Al20Ni20 and Fe20Cr20Al30Ni30. The alloys exhibited heterogeneous structures with high-density precipitates and dual-phase eutectic structures, resulting in excellent mechanical and wear properties. Fe20Cr20Al30Ni30 showed superior comprehensive mechanical and wear properties, making it a promising material for practical engineering applications.
