Association of impaired sensitivity to thyroid hormones with hyperuricemia through obesity in the euthyroid population

Zhiyuan Wu et al.

Summary: This cross-sectional study found that impaired sensitivity to thyroid hormones was associated with an increased prevalence of hyperuricemia in euthyroid adults. Body mass index (BMI) mediated the association between impaired sensitivity to thyroid hormones and hyperuricemia. These findings suggest the potential clinical benefit of weight control in maintaining metabolic health among individuals with impaired thyroid hormone sensitivity.

Impaired Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormones is Associated with Mild Cognitive Impairment in Euthyroid Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Zi-Wei Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between thyroid hormone sensitivity and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in euthyroid patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The results show that lower free triiodothyronine to free thyroxine (FT3/FT4) ratio and higher thyroid-stimulating hormone index (TSHI), thyrotrophic thyroxine resistance index (TT4RI), and thyroid feedback quantile-based index (TFQI) are associated with MCI. Impaired sensitivity to thyroid hormones is independently related to MCI in euthyroid T2D patients.

IDF Diabetes Atlas: Global, regional and country-level diabetes prevalence estimates for 2021 and projections for 2045

Hong Sun et al.

Summary: This study provides global, regional, and country-level estimates of diabetes prevalence and health expenditures for 2021 and projections for 2045. The global prevalence of diabetes is increasing and is expected to have the greatest relative increase in middle-income countries. Diabetes-related health expenditures are also projected to rise.

Reduced Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormone Is Associated with Diabetes and Hypertension

Ladan Mehran et al.

Summary: Recently, reduced sensitivity to thyroid hormone has become more common in the general population and is thought to be associated with metabolic parameters. This study found that TFQI, a new index for thyroid hormone resistance, is significantly associated with high blood pressure and diabetes in euthyroid subjects. However, caution is needed when interpreting the results for diabetes, and further studies are necessary.

Cross-Talk between the Cytokine IL-37 and Thyroid Hormones in Modulating Chronic Inflammation Associated with Target Organ Damage in Age-Related Metabolic and Vascular Conditions

Ljiljana Trtica Majnaric et al.

Summary: Chronic inflammation is considered to be the main mechanism contributing to age-related metabolic and vascular conditions. The relationship between chronic inflammation and metabolic disorders, particularly the cross-talk between cytokine IL-37 and thyroid hormones, is discussed in this article. IL-37 has been identified as a natural suppressor of chronic inflammation and plays a role in reversing the metabolic effects of inflammation. Thyroid hormones, known to regulate energy metabolism, are closely linked to inflammation in elderly individuals.

A Cross-Sectional Study Examining the Parametric Thyroid Feedback Quantile Index and Its Relationship with Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases

Vanesa Alonso-Ventura et al.

Summary: The study found a positive correlation between PTFQI and the prevalence of type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and hypertension, with higher PTFQI levels associated with higher disease prevalence. Type 2 diabetes was similarly associated with TSH and fT4, while ischemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and hypertension were more strongly associated with differences in fT4 values.

Lifetime risk of developing diabetes in Chinese people with normoglycemia or prediabetes: A modeling study

Xinge Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the risk of developing diabetes and the impact of diabetes on life years in the Chinese population. The results showed that Hong Kong faces a high lifetime risk of diabetes and long periods of living with diabetes, especially in individuals with prediabetes. Therefore, effective public health policies and targeted interventions are urgently needed to prevent the progression to diabetes.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between sensitivity to thyroid hormones and high remnant cholesterol levels in a euthyroid population in China. The results showed that reduced sensitivity to thyroid hormones was associated with high remnant cholesterol levels, suggesting an increased cardiometabolic risk.

Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormone Indices Are Closely Associated With NAFLD

Shuiqing Lai et al.

Summary: FT3/FT4 and TFQI(FT3) were positively correlated with TG, TC, and LDL-C levels, and negatively correlated with HDL-C level. FT3, FT3/FT4, and TFQI(FT3) were positively associated with dyslipidemia and NAFLD. TFQI(FT3) and FT3/FT4 performed better in predicting NAFLD compared to TFQI(FT4), but had low sensitivity and specificity at the optimal cut-points. TFQI(FT4) showed no association with dyslipidemia and NAFLD.

Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormones and Risk of Prediabetes: A Cross-Sectional Study

Bingyang Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that decreased central sensitivity to thyroid hormones is associated with a lower risk of prediabetes, demonstrating a complex interaction between the thyroid system and glucose metabolism. Future studies are needed to confirm these findings and determine the underlying mechanisms.
