Organochlorine pesticides induce thyroid tumors through oxidative stress; an in vivo and in silico study

Fouzieh Salimi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in oxidative stress (OS) and the development of thyroid tumors. The results showed decreased enzyme activities and total antioxidant capacity, as well as increased levels of oxidative stress biomarkers in patients with thyroid tumors. Therefore, OCPs may contribute to the development of thyroid tumors through the generation of oxidative stress.

The Incidence Trend of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma in the United States During 2003-2017

Yunmei Li et al.

Summary: The incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has been showing a downward trend, in contrast to the rapid increase in overall thyroid cancer detection rate. This study analyzed data from 2003 to 2017 and found that the incidence rate of PTC increased from 9.9 to 16.1 per 100,000 people but started to decrease after 2015. The downward trend was observed in different subgroups, including different sexes, age groups, races, and tumor stages and sizes. The findings emphasize the importance of correcting overdiagnosis in reducing the prevalence of PTC.

Epigenetics in neurodegenerative disorders induced by pesticides

Guangxia Yu et al.

Summary: Neurodegenerative diseases are becoming significant socio-economic burdens with ineffective treatment options. Excess exposure to pesticides is linked to the development of these diseases by triggering epigenetic changes and disrupting the epigenome. Research on epigenetic alterations in the nervous system related to different pesticides highlights potential mechanisms for the etiology, precision prevention, and targeted therapy of neurodegenerative diseases.
