The association of smoking, use of snuff, and preconception alcohol consumption with spontaneous abortion: A population-based cohort study

Yvonne Skogsdal et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between tobacco/alcohol use and spontaneous abortion among women attending antenatal care. It found that tobacco use was associated with an increased risk of spontaneous abortion, while alcohol habits preceding pregnancy were not. Age and body mass index (BMI) also influenced the risk of spontaneous abortion, and there were interactions between different lifestyle factors.

Female obesity increases the risk of miscarriage of euploid embryos

Mauro Cozzolino et al.

Summary: The study found that obese women have a higher risk of miscarriage after euploid embryo transfer compared to women with normal weight, suggesting that factors other than chromosomal abnormalities may be responsible for this outcome.

Obesity Challenge Drives Distinct Maternal Immune Response Changes in Normal Pregnant and Abortion-Prone Mouse Models

Yanhong Li et al.

Summary: Obesity is prevalent among women of reproductive age and increases the risk of developing pregnancy disorders. Maternal immune tolerance during pregnancy can be influenced by obesity-induced chronic inflammation. Research shows a mutual influence between pregnancy obesity and maternal immune regulation, potentially leading to complications during pregnancy.

RNA Demethylase FTO Mediated RNA m6A Modification Is Involved in Maintaining Maternal-Fetal Interface in Spontaneous Abortion

Weiyu Qiu et al.

Summary: The study found that the downregulation of FTO in chorionic villi leads to disturbances in immune tolerance and angiogenesis at the maternal-fetal interface, resulting in aberrant methylation and oxidative stress that eventually causes SA.
